When my son was eleven he was the runt on the LL all star team that won districts and sections making it to the states. It was a team full of 5’7 to 6’ kids. When they announced the line up the #8 hitter was 6’. I don’t think the opposition expected to see and hear, Batting 9th and catching ... (a 4’10” 85 pound catcher). They also probably didn’t expect him to throw line drives to second from his knees.

In 8th grade he was 5’4 120. Freshman year he was 5’11” 135. Senior year he was 6’1” 175. By soph year of college he was 6’2” 195.

I shared this story in another thread (I think the HS season thread).  My small 2023 catcher (5'8" 145#) played a team with two 6' 2"+ catchers.  HP Umpire told him in the middle of the game that he is too small to be a catcher.  My son held his own and went to shook umpire's hand afterwards to tell him that he isn't too small to be a catcher.

Anyway, I hope I can come back here in 2 to 3 years to share how my son shot up 6 inches...  But wife is short so it may not happen.  However, what I do know is that this has caused my son to work harder.  But he's still requesting that my wife stay far away from him if and when there's a recruiter interested in him this summer....
