Bizarre Baseball Scenarios.

I had fun with other parents this spring with that old "How many hits can you have in an inning without scoring a run?". (answer = 6) I learned that one here.

There was another I heard years ago, but I don't remember the question, nor the answer...I think it had to do with a triple play with only one runner on base. I really don't remember it, but I'm hoping somebody will recognize the question.

Anyway...I thought it would be fun to collect more of these types of questions...weird baseball trivia.

Got one?

You've got me on triple plays with only one on base...

How about the number of ways you can reach first base without a hit? I think the answer is 8

1.) Walk
2.) Hit by pitch
3.) dropped third strike
4.) catcher's interference
5.) Fielder's obstruction
6.) Pinch running
7.) Reached on error
8.) Fielder's choice
You know what RPD...I think it was! It was easily 15 years ago since I read about it (in Discover Magazine of all places)...

So, how does it work?

Infield Fly (1) that somehow hits a baserunner (2)...

I gotta think about the third...was the Hitter batting out of order?

JMoff...that must've been a riot to watch, but painful at the same time!
Here's one I was told about. Not sure it really happened or if someone just made it up.

Batter bunts ... ball goes right in front of home plate.
Catcher picks up ball -- goes to tag batter from behind.
Ball goes into the batter's back pocket.
Batter realizes it -- and just keeps on running ... and running!

Is he out? Was a legitimate tag made if the catcher didn't retain possession? If he's not out, is it a hit? Is it a home run??

I think this is actually covered in the rules somewhere -- I'll have to check.

Opinions, anyone?
