While working with my summer team 13s I noticed that they would benefit from daily reps of fundamental forms. From an idea I got off the net and then tweaked I put together the following routine which is done in warm-ups every day after run, stretch, short to long to short toss, underhand and dart toss.

FORMS
Done everyday as part of warm-ups
These are dry run “walk throughs” without a ball.
This provides extra reps in a short period of time 3-5min.
Coaches need to be monitoring and correcting.
All players do 1)-5) in unison on coach’s cadence. 6) on their own
1)Defensive stance: On “Ready, Release”
2)Infield:
a.Ball straight at.
b.Glove Side
c.Backhand
***2-3 times each to a command of “Ready, Release, Ball”
3)Ball over shoulder-Drop step
a. Left-Right-Straight over head
b. Right
c. Straight
4)Batting
a. Location on plate according to pitchers speed
b. Slo-mo swing
c. Bunting: location in box , form
5) Base running
a. Lead-off
b. secondary-Lead
c. Steal 1st steps
6)Position Specials (all at once on their own)
MI- Pivots for DP
Pitchers - Perfect Pitches or Picks to each base
Outfield – Fly ball set-up or do or die grounder
1B - return to base and stretch
Catchers - Footwork for throws

****all players fit into one of these categories as all play 2 positions

It worked so well with them thatI will be tweaking this once more for this springs HS team. Are there any more that you would add?

Coach Labeots-
We have "Routines" that we do for the 1st 40 minutes of every practice. They include dry swings, bunting, quick toss w/ tennis balls, whiffles w/ swifsticks, plyometrics with medicine balls, tubing, hands back trainer swings, etc. The kids at first see these as monotonous, but they soon realize that it makes them better players both physically and mentally...and they are sold on it after that.
Coach Knight,
I'm curious as to how you have these "Routines" set up? Do they move to stations, and how much room do they take up? Also, I like your things mentioned, could you list them all( or email me if the competition is spying)? Do they do them all each practice, or strictly 40min worth?
I believe that with a throwing routine and "forms" we get more practice in in the first 20 min than we did in most full practices before. I think your routines would fit well in my practices. Thanks for sharing.
