Please pray for Tony and his family. His younger brother Dennis, who was 47 years old passed away Wednesday. I don't have the details at this time, but please pray for this wonderful family that I've known most of my life.

I've known this family for a long time. I went to school with Dennis, Glenyss, and Darrell. Played football with Dennis, and baseball/football with Darrell. Papa Joe umpired my games and I umpired with him. I also coached Matt for several years. I can honestly say that this is one of the best families you will ever know. Period.

This may not be appropriate to put here, but I thought that maybe some of you might want to know.

Dennis Ray Smith Sr. went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at the age of 47.

Dennis was born on April 10, 1960, in Bonham, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University and received his bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1986. Dennis was the western region manager for Allergan and provided outstanding service to Allergan for six years.

He is survived by his college sweetheart and wife, Cathy Smith; two remarkable sons, Dennis Ray Smith Jr. and Robert Smith, and his daughter Sarah Smith, who adored him. Dennis and Cathy and their family have been residents of Boerne, Texas, for 10 years. Dennis is survived by his parents, the Rev. Joseph and Paula Smith; brothers Tony Smith and Darrell Smith, and his sister, Glenyss Barnhill. Dennis is also survived by his mother-in-law, Nancy Harris, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly.

Dennis was an incredibly loving and giving person who never tired of caring for his family and others first. He was honest, full of integrity, and an example of a strong, kind, and fun husband, father, son, brother and friend. Dennis loved Jesus, his wife and children with all his heart. Dennis’s life-long dream was to be a coach, and he enjoyed coaching many Boerne junior league teams, including his sons’ football and basketball teams. Dennis dearly loved the Boerne Greyhounds and was a big fan. Dennis loved to work outside on his many “projects,” was easy to talk to, and was good to everyone who knew or met him. Dennis was a deacon and member of First Baptist Church of Boerne. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, parents, family and friends, and has left a void in our lives that will not be filled again until we are reunited with him in Heaven.

Donations may be made in honor and memory of Dennis Ray Smith Sr. to First Baptist Church of Boerne Prayer Garden and to the Boerne Greyhound football program. Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Boerne. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 the First Baptist Church of Boerne.

Dennis, we love you and will miss you more than words can say. God Bless.

FO - my deepest condolences.

quote:
Early the next morning, while it was cool, Jesus started out again in another direction. This time He went to Nain. Nain was a city about twenty-five miles from Capernaum. The disciples of Jesus went along. The crowds also followed.

When they reached the gate of the city they met a group of very sad people. A woman of Nain, whose husband had died some time before, had now lost her only son. Friends were carrying her son’s body outside the city for burial. The boy was loved very much, because a long procession followed him to the grave site. Lots of people were weeping because the boy had been taken away from them.

Jesus and His apostles joined the procession. Back then everyone who met such a sad procession was expected to join, out of respect for the sad family. This poor mother was very, very sad. When Jesus saw her sorrow and tears, He said to her ...

“Do not weep.”

Jesus then did something that surprised everybody. He went up to the frame on which the young man was being carried, touched it, and told those who were carrying it to stop.

They did as Jesus said, wondering what was going to happen next. And what do you think happened next? Jesus said ...

“Young man, I say to you, Arise.”

The boy, even though he was dead, heard what the Lord said. He sat up and began to talk. Jesus gave him back to his mother. The Savior then left and went on His way.

The people who had seen what had happened were afraid and began to tremble. They had seen Jesus cure every kind of disease. But, now He brings a dead boy back to life! Only the Christ could do such a thing! They thanked God for such a Savior, and said ...

“A great prophet has come among us. Surely God has visited his people.”
Tony:

Dennis was an awesome man of God. He was a great role model for me as I grew up in McKinney. I remembered that I always wanted to be just like #88 Dennis Smith. Even when I went away to college, he would always ask me about how my baseball was going and he would encourage me to keep after it.

Please know that the Alford family is praying for you and your family.
FO, may God send His peace to you and your family during this difficult time of parting. May you be comforted by knowing that you will be reunited with your brother, in a far better place than this old earth, in a short while.

"Soon your trials will be over
Offered up by mercy's hand
A better view from where you stand
Going to another land

The sweetest welcome from the Father
Gathered up and carried home
We are past this time of waiting
Come let us bow before Your throne

We will meet in the Golden City in the New Jerusalem
All our pain and all our tears will be no more
We will stand with the hosts of heaven
And cry holy is the Lamb
We will worship and adore You evermore

Never can the powers of darkness
Neither death nor even life
Let nothing ever separate us
From the holy love of God

We will meet in the Golden City in the New Jerusalem
All our pain and all our tears will be no more
We will stand with the hosts of heaven
And cry holy is the Lamb
We will worship and adore You evermore."
Thanks, OP for letting everyone know about my brother.

He died Wednesday evening, in Seattle. He had completed a two mile run with a coworker. He had been on a stationary bike and collapsed after getting off the bike.

Over the past few years he had a few minor instances of arrhythmia which are changes in the beating of the heart, in some cases faster, other's slower.

He did not use caffeine, watched his sugar intake and had regular check ups.

It seems unlikely that the required autopsy will reveal the cause of his death because of the infrequent nature of those symptoms.

Dennis had been a very active participant in Boerne high school sports including football statistician and coaching the summer 7 on 7 team. His wife served as the booster club president. They were also very active in their church. I also found out from about 25 of his coworkers from across the country that he did actually work which may surprise some of his friends that have posted here.

I had no idea of the impact that my brother had on so many lives. The sting of his death to our family was more than offset by the outpouring of support from their church and community in Boerne, his coworkers, his former classmates, teammates, and coaches from McKinney.

And, from my family here.

Kindness and generosity goes a long, long way.............

Tony,

Words can't describe how sorry we all are at Dennis's passing away. He was a wonderful guy that would do anything for anybody. We will continue to pray for the family in the days to come, which will be difficult to say the least for all of you. God has a plan in all of this as you well know. It's just hard to understand right now why it happened.

If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know.

May God Bless You In The Coming Days.
