Just wanted to let everyone here know that I've posted 3 videos (about 10 mins each) of my presentation on "The Foundation of Catching - Stances, Blocking, and Throwing to 2B"

The videos can be seen here --> "The Foundation of Catching"

I'm sure not everyone will agree completely with what I say, but I hope it helps some of you!

I'll be completely honest and say that I would have no idea how to teach a left handed catcher to throw to third base! I would assume that it would similar to a right handed catcher throwing to first base though.

I would never discourage anyone from catching because I really believe that it is the most fun position on the baseball field, but it is going to be really hard to be taken seriously as a left handed (catching, not batting) catcher beyond HS.

I am aware of the arguments against in baseball, but just curious why do they want one in softball?

The main reason is that in the womens game it would not be unheard of for a catcher to field 3-4 bunts per inning. When making the throw to 1st the lefty has a distinct advantage of already facing the correct way and can save close to 2-3 tenths of a second making the play.

As far as the arguments about lefties in baseball I have written an article that is at the link below:

Lefty Catcher

Yes BASEBALL. He is a sophomore (hs), built like a fireplug and a good hitter. Catching is his best postion. He'll be varsity next year (probably). I just threw this out there because, like Xan, I'd never really thought about it much.

Not worried about next level. He will be fixing deisel tractors after high school and making way more money than me.
