They play in the Peach Belt conference which is one of the best conference in D2 baseball. They are a very good D2 baseball program. They won the Peach Belt last season. They are building a really nice baseball complex on campus. I got the chance to see the new site last season when my sons team played them. Its going to be very very nice. The school is small. The town is small. But its a good school and a nice town.

They take their baseball very seriously and many of their players play in college summer leagues. The roster is full of talented players. And they play very hard and are well coached. My observation from watching them play a few times.
I'll concur with the others. FMU plays a serious brand of baseball, and I've seen them in the NCAA tournament a good bit over the last three seasons. Coach Inabinet recruits a solid mix of high school kids and transfers, and they reload more than rebuild. His teams always play hard and really compete. They almost came through the losers' bracket to reach the D2 World Series last season.

As for Florence, it's OK. It's not so small that at least there are some things to do there. The campus is on the outskirts of town on the way toward Myrtle Beach. Not sure what you might be looking for academically.
