VaRHPMom- I was recruited by F&M in the fall of 2007 when Bill Walkenbach was the coach there. He has since moved on to Cornell. I can't comment on the new coaching staff so I will comment on everything else I remember.

F&M is in Lancaster, PA which is a blue collar city in the middle of what is known as "Amish country". The campus is situated in the northwest corner of the city right next to Clipper Magazine Stadium, which is a minor league stadium in the independent Atlantic League. It is easily accessible off of the Harrisburg Pike and quite close to Lancaster General Hospital, which are both plusses in my opinion. The school is quite small, with just over 2,000 students enrolled. The campus is a very nice campus with most of the buildings being brick buildings and having an easy layout, with most of the residential buildings located around a central quad and the academic buildings situated beyond those. Greek life seems to be fairly prevalent there as it seemed as though that was the main nightlife option the weekend I visited but of course that could be a perception just based on a small sample size. The main athletic building is a large building that is rather secluded from the rest of the campus buildings, but houses a very nice indoor facility as far as I can remember.

The baseball field is off campus, about a mile. I remember it being in decent condition- not great- but it was the fall when I visited and the weather was iffy. I do recall the fences being very deep so that could behoove a pitcher. They compete in the Centennial Conference, which I would generally consider a middle of the pack DIII conference that has been very much dominated by Johns Hopkins in the past. The coaching staff that was there when I was recruiting was very young and enthusiastic but again, I can't comment on that now.

Overall my impression of F&M was favorable. I decided against attending for two main reasons. It is an expensive liberal arts school and it is a bit small for my liking. I chose an in-state school more than half the cost of F&M and much larger. But those particular circumstances notwithstanding, F&M was an enjoyable experience in a very nice campus setting. When I called to inform the coaching staff of my decision they were incredibly respectful and wished me luck in the future.

Hope all this helps.
