How many guys on here failed to make their freshman team and went on to have good careers? If nobody else has, I will be when I come back and MAKE the team next year. Wasn't tall enough.

I know a of kid--the son of a very well known major leaguer--who didn't make the freshman or JV team. Couldn't throw at all. Finally made the HS varsity and did nicely.

He was a big kid who went on to star in college football at a very prestigious D-1 program.

But even having a legendary dad, he couldn't make the freshman team. True story.
My son has a coach who looks at height first and will always take a taller player first no matter the skill level. He is very up front about his bias and claims you will never be able to pitch/play in majors or college if you are not six foot. These are kids who just want to play HS baseball. If he was Pedro Martinez's coach he would not have played for this guy. He is telling this to kids who are benched on his team and got money to play Div I from their play during summer and fall.
Hang in there. Play competive summer ball and keep trying out. The people who matter will see you if you stay positive.
At my son's school, a boy he knew didn't make the freshman team. After try-outs, I asked my son if there was anybody he felt SHOULD have made the team, who didn't...this kid was the first name out of his mouth. Two years before, this same boy was picked to be on a good select team with my son, but opted to sit out a year...didn't feel he could commit to playing as many games as that team was going to play.

That kid took some hitting lessons last fall/winter and went out this year for JV. Bingo!...he makes the team. Last week he hit a double off the wall just below the 360' marker.

He's not big, either...probably 5'8" and 140. He just got serious, decided it was something he wanted and, then, set out to MAKE it happen.

Good Luck is said to be where preparation meets opportunity!!!
