Frisco Wakeland (31-10): In early May, Frisco Wakeland needed to win a district playoff game against Sherman to qualify for the postseason. Now it's making its first appearance in the state tournament. The Wolverines, who have won 12 of their last 13 games, have experienced a power surge. In a two-game sweep of Rockwall-Heath in the region final, they produced 26 runs. During that series, Greg McCall, a senior catcher who has signed with UT-Arlington, smashed three home runs.
Corpus Christi Calallen (37-4): The Wildcats have an ace in their hand. Rob Zastryzny, a left-hander, is 15-1 this season and didn't suffer his first loss until Friday in Calallen's region final series against Lake Travis. However, Zastryzny came back the next day and won the third game – giving the Wildcats a chance to claim their fourth state championship and second in three years.
