Let's hope this does not start a trend.

What a ridiculous rule by the NCAA, which leads to these unfortunate decisions.
What a ridiculous rule by the NCAA...
The NCAA is a ridiculous ruling body... One could expect nothing less than their consistent ridiculous rulings!
Did you know that in person scouting of opponents in football, basketball, and women's volleyball has been against the rules for the last 16 years?
Did you know that for years (excepting lacrosse) if coach receives any expense money for recruiting or team travel, he can't scout opponents?
Did you know that for years a coach or other representative of the college can't be reimbursed for expenses incurred while scouting?
In other words, up to now, Fullerton has been able to scout in person a few opponents who also don't provide streaming video, but the substantial majority of their games are against opponents who either do provide live video or can't have been scouted because of distance. So I'm not sure why they've taken this stance.
Wow.so sad. We watched a lot of games live streamed when we couldn't make it for our sons college career. NCAA just too much control and will ruin the game.JMO
Seems like there's an easy solution.
When I played D3 football many years ago, teams were required to provide game film to future opponents. (Unfortunately, the only information we got from those films was evidence that our next opponent was bigger and faster than us, just like our last opponent.)
If you have to provide video to opponents, there's no harm in streaming it to fans.
Really what advantage does one get by scouting an opponent in baseball?
I will say I've never watched a streamed CSF game...but I have watched others. The games are filmed with 1 camera in the press box from high behind home plate. It's painful to watch...but if you had a kid playing or were a fan and couldn't make it, it's bearable at best. I'm not sure what you could possibly think an opponent could get from it. There's no chance of seeing signs...and in most cases you can't see both the 2B and SS at the same time defensively. Sounds to me like CSF overreacted....but I guess we have no way to know their reasoning. I'm wondering if Notre Dame will cut their football deal now....because they are on EVERY week while other teams are not. It's a huge advantage to ND's opponents to be able to see them on TV...while not every other major college team is available on tv every saturday.....lol. I'm sure ND is willing to give up that million dollar contract to protect them from the prying eyes of scouts watching on TV ........or not

Bulldog- I hope you're being facetious here. Major League teams spend a lot of money and a lot of time on advance scouting.

Swampboy, that gave me a huge belly laugh!!!
Bulldog, tonight I watched a season opener with a very young, inexperienced team going against a pitcher throwing 95 and up, who projects to be picked very high in June. The hitting coach for the young team had a very precise plan based on studying scouting reports and every piece of information he could find.. For the most part, every hitter in the line up executed the approach. By the 4th inning, the prospect was near 100 pitches, out of the game, the scouts went home, and the scrappy young team had a W. Scouting in college baseball, if done well, is a huge advantage, when players buy in and execute what is learned from the scouting reports.
Sad and kind of stupid, but I follow the "logic."
Just more evidence on how insular and moronic the NCAA has become. They always seem to forget the STUDENT/athlete part of the equation, which means they have friends and family that enjoy watching their son's, daughters, relatives and friends play. These teams play each other in league play over and over and I can guarantee the coaches know what they are up against.
I am not supporting the NCAA but I am a little confused as to where the blame lies. Everything I read said Fullerton decided. I never said the NCAA told them they could not stream. I mean heck they are still running it on ESPN 3. Also had enough schools voted against it, it would have been defeated.

What do you want Fullerton to do? They are the big dogs being gunned for. Why make their video streams publicly available when everyone else doesn't even have one - and Fullerton can't make up the difference by sending scouts?
Ridiculous. If the NCAA told us to bark like a dog and jump up on one leg, I guess we should all do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXfLEoCMO3c
In 20-30 years, we are going to look back at the NCAA and wonder why we let these guys dictate arbitrary policy the way they do. Who will be the first conference to tell the NCAA to go pound sand? I'm looking forward to it.
Kyle,
I have no problem with Fullerton making this decision. I just think blaming the NCAA for this, when not enough schools cared to vote this down, is lame.
Today's game is live on their website right now.....change of heart maybe????
Fullerton has very strong baseball?
Pinheaded decisions beget additional pinheaded decisions.
