I hope the Field situation is taken care of better than this Northwestern tourney. I mean if i'm running a tourney , i have the fields locked up a year before and then we play where we are supposed to. NOT find out on thursday before that we are playing at a totally dif site. not that i dont like triton, i do and i think it was nice of them to step up....but not to well organized.....don't like surprises. especially when you are traveling. so , if they're are no surprises, it should be a good one.
I assure you that the Fun in the Sun wiLL NOT BE ANYTHING LIKE NORTHWESTERN.... THE COMPANY THAT IS PUTTING ON THE NORTHWESTERN TOURNEY IS WELL KNOWN TO BE DISORGANIZED..AND ALWAYS FULL OF SURPRISES...(that is why i left them)....
FIELDS ARE ALL SET FOR FUN IN SUN AND PLAY WILL BE AS ADVERTISED....UNLESS IT RAINS IN ONE AREA AND WE WOULD HAVE TO MOVE IT...
weather forcast...HOT, HOT, HOT....."Fun in the Sun"

Finally got to meet some of the posters on the board. UK I assume it was you who I spoke with on the RF line. I didnt get your posting name but it was great speaking with you also. Just some observations: Brian Stroud is very very good. Even though he didnt have great velocity on Sat. he did show off the hammer he has quite a bit. I was also impressed with the Orland Park Sparks in general. The have a fine bunch of gamers on that team. They gave us a game two straight days. The players were good and their coaching staff was very class also. It was great to talk baseball with those guys. Ryan Court from Lake in the Hills was also very impressive at SS. I wish the tournament was set up a little different. It sucks going 6-0 and getting the consol. championship like we did. The Evansville Razorbacks ended up winning the championship by the way.
I saw all Orioles games and some of Top Tier. Yes, the Orioles swung wood bats the entire tourney to get ready for Georgia. One bad inning cost them the game on Saturday. Otherwise, they played solid baseball against some pretty good competition. Saturday night, Andrew Hagins hit 2 homers (both bombs) with wood (after breaking 2 bats that morning).

I understand that Top Tier had a little problem in their last game with a coach an player being ejected. I don't know the details though.
in a game against clarendon hills one of the coaches from top tier accused a thunder player of stealing top tier signs from second base. he went into a fury of swears and f bombs before the umpire settled him down. within the next few innings temperatures rose as the thunder pitcher was wild and hit a few batters. when the thunder player from before went up to bat the next time, top tier brought in one of their hard throwers to throw one pitch which beaned him. in the game both the thunder and top tier pitcher were ejected, along with the entire top tier coaching staff and a number of top tier players taunting from the bench.
Cougar235,

Yeah, those coaches sure must be evil guys. They fight for their players and, one assistant coach in particular, does use the F word a little too frequently. Todd Fine, is as classy a guy who you'd want your son playing for. College coaches value his player evaluations and the relationships he has developed with them and that's why they show up in big numbers wherever the team is playing.

Gamer, TT also hit with wood in their 3 games in Carbondale.

Now in East Cobb, Top Tier's first game against the South Charlotte Panthers with a 38-5 record. First inning, Tyler Ladendorf infield single. Brian Lambert single, walk, Connor Powers 3 run triple off the wall in front of the Miss. State coaches. Final TT 8- Charlotte 2.

The Semi-Finals were won by Razorback Baseball and White Sox Academy. Razorback Baseball defeated Lombard Lightning Red 8-0 in five innings. The other semi-final was won 10-1 by the White Sox Academy over the number one seed Bloomington-Normal. The championship game was won by Razorback Baseball 4-1 over the White Sox Academy. Southeast Missouri State signee and Shelbyville standout Derek Hayden pitched 5 2/3 innings of two hit ball. Indiana North/South All-Star Adam Klatka picked up the save. Our pitching staff pitched very well on Sunday. We only allowed four hits and one run over the two games. This tournament had some great teams and was well scouted.

Then what's your point. No, it's not the first time that this coach has been tossed, but I don't know about "I hear it happens alot"? This team's goal as it is every year is to prepare the players for their first experience playing collegiate baseball this fall. It,once again, is a squad loaded with D1 players, draftees and some terrific D2 and D3 players. They're good, possibly very good and they will fight and claw and leave it all on the field.

That being said, my son plays on the TT 17U team, referred to by Coach Fine as the JV team. I certainly haven't seen all that much of this year's team play, but we've heard that this group of players won't disappoint. BTW, the TT 17's just won the National Prep Tournament at IU in Bloomington. 5-0 averaging 13 runs scored, 3 allowed. Capetta, Van Aslen, McMurray, Kevin Crane and Andrew Treppel just mashing.

Congratulations to Razorback Baseball for winning the tournament and to the White Sox for finishing 2nd.

Coach Johnson:

Thank you for your post. Many of us were looking for details and you came through!

Please extend my congratulations to Derek Hayden and his father. His father and I visited with each other at the end of our game versus the Rockford Hitmen at SIU on Friday morning.

We, the Illinois Magic and your Evansville Razorbacks, had a tough, close, yet good game at Herrin Saturday afternoon.

Knowing that both of our teams played a hard fought game, my son and I are both happy that you went on to win it all.

Congratulations to you, your coaching staff, your players and their families on a well deserved championship.

So, when you refer to a coach as "fighting for his kids", does that mean bringing in a pitcher to throw at some kids head????? COME ON!!!!! What did he fight for???? To teach a kid to physically hurt another player, or did the pitcher take it upon himself to be the "judge, jury and executioner"????? Is that "fighting" for his players??????

Last year at the same tournament, my son was "beaned" by Oxley from Evansville, who was with the Indiana Yankees. Bunt situation, came in at his head. Two fractures of his eye socket, 8 stitches, blood in his eye which alomost ended his playing days, and I'm supposed to feel good!!!!! Oxley's father, who was coaching, was more concerned over whether my son had pulled-back his bat on the bunt attempt. Didn't even come over to see, or ask if he was o.k.!!!!! Fight-for-his-kids, my ***!!!!!! Any coach that condons that, isn't a coach, He's a tool!!!

Yeah, yeah sure, "he should have ducked", "it happens in the pros". I'm surprised at you 'rosy' and I know they are your freinds, but give me a break.

Am I being overly critical of your comment, or the situation??? Clue me in, and I'll tell you how it feels to watch your own kid get plunked, bleed all over the field, and then worry about whether he has long term eye damage. Help me out 'rosy'.

It was in the Sparks/Bullets game in the 1st inning down the LF line as we spoke for the entire inning. I left for Carterville after about the 2nd inning and heard that Stroud did settle down after I left. It can be a good experience for Stroud to not have the velocity on a given day and still be able to adjust to get quality hitters like the Bullets have.

I know Andrew hit a DB and a HR, I thought he was pulled after that (in about the 4th after Lonell was caught stealing 3B and ended the inning)?
Boomer,

Excuse me, but do you even know what you're talking about in this instance? As I hear tell, 4 Top Tier players had been hit and not until a TT coach got verbal asking for them to get a warning was any action taken by the umpires. A 5th TT player was hit and there was an ejection. There was a lot of trash talking going on by both teams, as happens especially in a game that had 5 batters hit. Cedric Redmond came in and hit an opponent in the calf, not in the upper back like Vic Valdez was drilled after having words with their catcher. Redmond was summarily chased as well as the coach. It is what it is and no pitcher from TT threw anywhere near a players head. The tally of hit batters in the game in question was 5-1. BTW, my info is 2nd hand not having been at the game.

Don't think for a moment that I don't have empathy for you and Andy for his injury. I've been down the injury road myself, and it is a very tough road indeed. However, your situation seems so much more egregious both by the opposing pitcher and the *** coach.

I'm surprised that you chose to use the "friend" card in your taking umbrage with me. I pointed out that a TT assistant coach throws around the 'F' word much too often and there is no excusing that. However, if that's what you think about my degree of baseball acumen, then so be it.
