From today's Chicago Sun-Times:

Apparently, Charlie Manuel played a season or two for fiery manager Billy Martin.

"He recalled one night in Detroit when Martin asked him to pinch run at second base...Mickey Stanley was playing shortstop. I went in the game and I got off second base to stretch and all of the sudden Stanley is standing there with the ball, Manuel recalled...

I went over and sat down (in the dugout). He'd (Martin) come over and I will never forget this, and he looked at me and said, 'Don't worry about it. It's my fault for putting you in the game.'"
