My son attened a college camp several years ago. The first thing the instructor did was to have the kids put their gloves down so that they could stretch. Most kids just threw their gloves down. His first comment was he could tell who cared enough about the game and the investment their parents were making to take care of their equipment. His thought is to lay your glove down with the palm down so as little leather is touching the ground as possible (just the thumb and little finger slot touch)
Congratulations on going to a showcase. It is a very good idea to prepare yourself and your equipment prior to the showcase (just like a game). Make sure the laces are sound in your mitt and make sure you have everything you will need. Ball, tape, towel etc. I wouldn’t do anything special as far as appearance to the equipment (like polishing it) but I would make sure your equipment is clean. This only adds to the life of your equipment and allows you to inspect your equipment for approaching problems. This is January and your equipment should have been cleaned and organized months ago. I’ve never been an advocate of pine tar on the helmet especially for a catcher that has enough problems trying to keep his equipment clean and organized. I’m impressed that you’re preparing for your showcase and wish you the best --- exciting times!!
Good luck to you futurecatcher! Let us know how it goes.

futurecatcher - You've already received very good advice from some dads, but I do want to wish you good luck! Go and play hard.... and enjoy every minute of the experience!! A lot of folks believe in ya kiddo!! Let us know your thoughts after the showcase.... your experience will benefit other players who have yet to have that first one!
Futurecatcher27,

I say if you think you should clean your equipment, then get on out there and make it spit shine spiffy!
My son wipes down his bats, his cleats, batting helmet, etc. It has never hurt him to do so.

I would like to also emphasize about making sure your equipment is sound and in ready condition. That's always important.

My son keeps an extra everything in his bag, including power bars, athletic tape & a gatorade.
Make sure you hydrate the night before, and eat well.

Look ready. BE ready. Give 110%. Hustle hustle and more hustle. Show em' what you're made of and what you've got!

Bring it babah,..bring it!!!

This is YOUR TIME TO SHINE!!!

Have a blast!!! & let us know how things went!!
We're roootin' for ya!!!
