Or, Rangers hitter fails to execute, and Giants hitter clobbers one into the seats. There's your difference. Just depends on if you are looking at it from a pitching or hitting perspective.

I just heard that the NFL wants to fine the SF Giants for hitting Cliff Lee too hard.
Guerrero was an exceptional outfielder in his younger days with Montreal, but he looks pretty bad out there tonight.

I'm still going with the Rangers in this series...but I reserve the right to change my prediction from six to Seven games! We'll see what happens? This may just be the Giants year...as much as I hate to admit it!
Yes, but he was with Seattle for half the season. And, he pitched through some back problems in Texas. So, his W-L figures are not reflective of his actual healthy performance with Texas.

He was way off last night...worst outing of the season for him that I saw. And it wasn't that the Giants were hitting good pitches. Lee was just missing spots badly that he normally hits. He'll be much better in Game 5.
What do Haladay, Oswalt, Hammels & Lee all have in common? Outstanding pitchers that somehow managed to stumble when they faced the "weak" hitting Giants. No 90 RBI guy, No 30 HR guy, just a bunch of ball players that win. They are by no means a power house offense but they are fun to watch. I hope the continue their "lucky" ways and keep "pulling rabbits out of hats"(tongue firmly planted in cheek)....
I didn't see the Haladay, Oswalt, Hammels games. But last night wasn't so much Giants execution but Lee's lack of execution. Lee normally hits Molina's target exactly. Last night he was missing by a mile...the replays showed that. That's Lee not the hitter, and it's not like him. Granted the hitter had to still hit it and they did. I don't expect Wilson will miss his spots like that tonight. If he hits them and the Giants still put up 11 runs, we'll have to bring in Pedro to give the "they are my daddy" speech. Big Grin
One aspect that has been repeatedly pointed out about the Giant's this year is that they quickly move on to the next game. They had several this year(2 in St. Louis that I watched in person cry) where one might think they were the worst team in baseball.
Every time they had a huge loss and bad game, they immediately bounced back and played well.
They do the same with wins. Within an hour of the last out last night, that game was history and meant nothing. Tonight is a completely new game and they have to win innings.
Part of that is Bochy. Part I think comes from experience...players like Renteria, Uribe.
I expect the same approach from Ron Washington and especially Cliff Lee. Last night is over. There are no carry overs.
The only aspect from last night that might play some role beyond last night is what to do with Vlad in RF since he cannot DH. AT&T is the toughest/largest RF in baseball.
It is a thankless job to be the DH nearly all year and then be asked to perform like Jason Werth did at AT&T.
In games where we do expect pitching to excel, the margin for error in the toughest RF in baseball is pretty fine.

Come on now T-Husker, throw the GIANTS a bone. They did execute against Lee on an off night and then promptly executed the rangers relievers.

Did you read my post? I said the hitters needed to execute and they did. But you could see Molina consistently calling for pitches on corners that were coming in over the middle of the plate from Lee. That's not like Lee at all. If you're throwing the ball over the middle of the plate it will be a short series.

I'm not taking anything away from the Giants. They executed better than the Rangers last night. They were the better team last night. I'm simply saying I think you'll see much better execution from the Rangers going forward. As badly as the Rangers played in all aspects of the game last night, I'm rather surprised it was as close as it was....that's what I think the Rangers will take from last night.

Not a surprise to me,as posted earlier, in light of last night: Vlad to the bench, David Murphy in left and Nelson Cruz back to right.
Tough to take Vlad's offense out of the line up. Frankly, while I have not seen a lot of Murphy, he has been very impressive in every AB I have seen.
To my eyes, he has a beautiful left handed swing, so that might be another aspect to the line up change against the RHP, Matt Cain.

Wow! One game and this guy's ready for the trash heap! I'd hate to see what you think should happen to Vlad.

didnt say trash heap- said "slightly lower" what ever that is when you talk Yankee money!

As for the Yankee fans spitting,- that couldnt have happened as the " Yankee fans" were gone home very early in those games! Big Grin
I am kind of surprised at some of the responses about Lee's performance last night. He was so instrumental in getting his team to where they are, does anyone realize how difficult that was?

Yup, his stuff wasn't working last night, that happens and when it does, then the offense has to work harder. The Rangers lost the game last night, not the pitcher.

I don't even think that Lincecum had his best stuff going(he too must be a bit burned out) but he's a tough nut to crack for any hitter facing him for the first time.

He under-performed and did not do his job..... a failing grade IMHO. While a pitchers "complete canvas" makes good conversation he is only as good as his last outing when you rate a single performance.

You are right, rz....Lee himself would say the exact same thing. He's human. I wouldn't bet against him in game 5. I bet he's absolute MONEY Monday.

I would also have bet that Bill Buckner would not let a grounder go between his legs or Kirk Gibson would not hit an HR on one leg Wink. My bet on Lee is a coin flip. I have too much history on the "shet happens" intangible to bet on one player dominating a team in their grandest moment. JMO
