EDITED BY MN-Mom:

Members are having so much fun reading about game performances by "our" boys in the thread below, that we'll make it a weekly feature.

Members, please share your game reports about your sons, their teams, or other players you are watching. If it's not totally obvious from your profile, please tell us the level or age you are reporting on.

Eventually we might want to move this format to separate forums for each level: high school, pre-high school, and after high school.

And now, back to Krak's post:

Once again, here is a thread where all websters should feel comfortable posting info about the great baseball feats their boys are achieving. Don't be shy - we all love reading this stuff!!

(Thanks Coach May for starting us off with 'Proud Papa'!!)

I don't have a son to brag on but I do have the kids that I have been following a few years.

One has been getting good ink,

1) After two innings, Chamberlain trailed 3-0, courtesy of RBI singles by Greg Schueller and Ryan DeLaPortilla in the first and Andrew Virgilli's sacrifice fly in the second.

And that wasn't good news, considering Wharton ace Vinny Lally was on the mound. Lally gave the Wildcats everything they needed through the first four innings, limiting the Chiefs to three hits while striking out five. The junior left-hander pitched his way out of his only jam early, striking out consecutive batters with the bases loaded in the second to end the inning.

2) Before the decisive play, Wharton junior lefty Vinny Lally (2-0) and King senior right-hander Joe Cole (2-1) silenced the bats for all but Wharton's eighth-inning tally. Lally used a masterful curve and breaking ball to set up his fastball, allowing only a fifth-inning single to Theo King, who was promptly cut down attempting to steal second. Lally fanned 11 and didn't issue a walk

"(Lally) throws maybe 82-85 mph, but he has great command and great movement on his pitches," Wharton coach Scott Hoffman said. "You don't need to hit in the 90s on the radar gun to be effective. He's pitched like this every time out. He's averaging 11 (strikeouts) every game."

Well... I don't know if I like doing this either but, I am a very proud pop and I guess it's my turn.
I Just recieved the 2006 NCAA RECORDS BOOK that I ordered about 3 weeks ago knowing my sons name would be in it. I went to the ERA leader page and to my surprise his picture was on top of the page. WOW! what a thrill. He was the Division II ERA leader with a .091 ERA in 69 innings pitched. Next to the picture was a caption saying he was the 1st freshman to win that title in 16 years. I know that does'nt compare with some of the Big DI players and schools but I'm still prouder then a peacock.
He got his 1st start last Mon. against Pace University after having a bad sprained ankle this pre season. He went 8 innings on a still tender ankle allowing just 3 hits and no earned runs and got the win.
Another good kid.

"Their kid pitched really good, and he knows how to pitch," Scull said. "We hit some balls pretty hard but they were always positioned well."

Schurig thought the outing was his second-best of the year, behind his 11-strikeout performance Saturday against Riverview in Pacific Division play. Hillsborough's ace has allowed two runs on seven hits in 13 innings in this year's tournament, going 2-0.

"I always expect to throw a shutout," Schurig said. "When my team jumps out to a big lead like that, you can just go out there and throw strikes. You don't have to worry about hitting your spots exactly. It's much easier."
Son who is really OF '06 was opening day pitcher for hs....and had 15K!

But the biggest deal was getting the W as the players didn't think they would even get one all year. First year coach is doing a phenomenal job of motivating the team and getting them to do all the little things that truly matter. Nearly all of the parents were in attendance at the second game (an L against a larger school) -- which didn't happen the previous three years. I'm even proud of them for supporting their kids.
From Dallas Morning News, Monday, 3/20:
baseballmom's son is doing great! Whooppee!!

Newman Smith ready for strong district run
Carrollton Newman Smith coach J.T. Blair predicts that his team is about to embark on a winning streak. The reason: Newman Smith will rely on two dominant pitchers during District 10-5A play.

Preston Claiborne, a senior who has signed with Tulane, is the returning ace. Oklahoma State signee Donald Williams moved in from Oklahoma this summer.

The 6-2, 220-pound Claiborne dominated his first two district starts, striking out 28 in 13 innings. The 6-2, 205-pound Williams, who struggled early in the season after suffering a hamstring pull, threw a two-hit shutout in Tuesday's win over Carrollton R.L. Turner.

"He's just now getting back in a groove," Blair said. "I'm telling you, I think we're about to go on a run."
We play our first game tonight. Now, we will play a bunch of games in a row. I had a 5 of the 6 seniors from last year's team contact me either yesterday or today wishing us good luck for this year. One of them was 5-7 yesterday in two games and so, he is doing well. Yet, he remembered to wish us luck. One came and visited last night. I very proud of these young men.

We're just getting started, my son has played 2 games. He made JV as a freshman, is the starting catcher and bats 4th.

So far in 10 plate appearances he is 3-5 (one double), with 4BB and one HBP.

He's caught very well. No passed balls yet.

Interesting - it seems at the JV level the batters are ahead of the pitchers. I guess it is because any kid with real strong stuff is playing varsity. My son has had no trouble at all adjusting to the pitching.

This pop is all too happy to brag. Son is off to a sizzlin start. 06 LHP/OF, through 10 HS games is batting .576 (19/33) w/ 4 HR, 9 Doubles and 14 RBI. 8 walks too.

Pitching he is 2W/1L with 27 K in 21 IP and 2.59 ERA. Fastball has been in the 85-89 range over 4 starts. Threw a 6 inning 1 hitter yesterday w/ 10Ks.

Team is 3-7, but they're young and going to improve much in the next few weeks.
Nothing much to write home about as son tweaked his back at first outdoor practice/tryouts about 3 weeks ago in a simulated game in which he K'd 3 of 4 and went 1-2 at the plate with a triple. Hasn't been able to swing/pitch since and has missed first 5 scrimmage games where team is 4-0-1. Fortunately they still have another week of scrimmage games before league games begin Apr 03. Back is feeling much better (thank you lord) and hoping he can begin lite workouts this weekend and be able to contribute once the games count. He's got his work cut out for him and has to suck-it-up being his critical junior year. All going well hope to have something to report in couple weeks.

Son is a LHP in his SR year. Team is YOUNG! Only 2 returning varsity players, four Sophs started the game. Two Sophs commited 5 errors between them. They'll get there, but it might take time.

First game last night. Pitchers on pitch count of 40 due to the cold (thank goodness). Son pitched innings 4,5 and 6. Entered with us losing 0-3.

He did GREAT! Faced 9 batters in 3 innings with 8 K's. Had one walk when his fingers were so cold he couldn't feel them. Made him mad so he picked the guy off for the last out. So I guess his stats look good, but this may be a tough year. Team lost 2-3. Oh... son had 2 at bats with a ground rule double that almost cleared the fence in center. Other AB, reached on FC. He's going to college as a Pitcher, so these at bats are just for fun. We're just so glad that baseball has finally started here in the midwest!
I usually hold off on the bragging but I'm glad I found a forum to do it. My son, whom is only 13, made the JV team this year. He is 6'-1" and 225 so it is a good fit. Well he just went yard in a game Saturday. He has been hitting well, I don't get caught up in my kid's stats but he bats 3 sometimes and 5th sometimes. So he is getting on base. I was looking on this site to find High School records to see if a 13 year old has hit one out in a high school game before. Found the brag board and had to blow my horn for a while. Thanks, I thought I had to keep it to myself.
Just got back from my High School game which we won 9-1, I came in relief and pitched 3 innings striking out all 9 outs with 1 HBP and 1 BB and a slow roler infield hit, I also hit a double in my only at-bat, in my first outing I went 5 innings giving up none 5 K's 2 BB's and 1 Hit, so total now im 8 innings 14 K's 4 BB's and 2 Hits
