GAME CENTRAL - Okay to Brag: Week 2

okay--I'll start. Zack has hit another HR. That is 4 in 5 games. He pitched 4 innings striking out 8, 1 er. First tournament this weekend. Hopefully hitting streak will continue!

Monday's game ~ Zach's RBI was the only run scored in the game.

Tonight's game ~ Zach pitched 4 2/3 innings with 7 strikeouts and only 1 walk. Went 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI and a solo Homerun, the first of his varsity career.

Hope the great beginning continues!!

Not my normal style to do this but I will. Son is Frosh in HS in a very competitive area and playing JV as the only catcher. This week he has been batting 750 and cranked a 365 line drive HR that was still going up as it left the park. In the last 5 attempted steals he is 5 for 5 on put outs at second. He is blocking virtually everything and has the bruises to prove it.

The coach allows him to call all the pitches and he has a good feel for the game. The pitchers want him behind the plate

The best part is that he is a very humble guy and if I tell him he had a great game he immediately points to other players and how great they are. BTW - he is carring an 85 average in all advanced classes and has a girlfriend as well - he is balancing the first year of HS very well.

After going 2 for 8 last week with a triple and a double, scoring 2 runs with 2 RBI's against modest pitching, Chris was looking forward to playing ranked Herbert Hoover High. Pitcher for Wensday's game for Hoover was second team all state last year. Chris went 2 for 3 with a double and a stolen base. Rest of his team only got 2 hits.

No highlights this week due to rain. 3 days cancelled this week so far.

I hope I'm not jinxing anything....son is 06 RHP first year on varsity at super big 5A school. Did well enough in summer ball that he signed with junior college in Feb. Stats for area came out today and he's 15 in the area with .88 ERA. Tied for 3rd with fewest walks 5 through 33 innings pitched. Lost 3 tough games without run support, but team is coming around and we're now 5-0 in district. Very proud mom, thanks to innocent bystander for encouraging me to post.

Son hitting .500 thru 4 games at leadoff, scoring 5 runs. Team is 2-2 but beat #2 ranked team in the state last night. JT, Jr has thrown out 2/4 base runners foolish enough to try to steal off him.

I enjoy reading all of these postings. My son is finally playing his third and fourth game of the season. Pitched 2 more innings (league game Saturday) and still as a zero ERA. Struck out 6. Had trouble finding the zone but allowed no runs. Also hit well. Another scout there clocked him consistently at 88 on a very cool day. Told us that was good this early in season and for how cool it was. He is going to have a great senior year.

Ok... I've waited a while but I have to BRAG about this one... its just too special...

WOW!! Definately noteworthy!!

Wasn't much to brag on last year, so I'm gunna brag a little. Got to watch Jr. throw (snif, snif) his second complete game in a row, last weekend in a tough luck 2-0 loss, after nearly shutting out Minnesota the week before. He goes again tomorrow, leading his conference in ERA.

SDBB and Dad04, congratulations to both of you and to your sons. College baseball is great fun and posts like yours are what this site is all about, IMO. To read about players who are excelling with the bat and on the mound gives you every reason to brag and I am so glad you did!

Wow, even Dad04 getting some ink with the press. That last link/article is terrific. Shows how difficult the transition to college can be, how mentally tough these players are, and most importantly, how they need to make adjustments to continue to succeed.
Good thing Buddy had Mom to help with the slider.

It ain't easy bein' green. Freshman year is tough. Successful players have adjusted to the circumstances. Evaluate & adjust, is the 1st year mode. He'd be lost wid out momma.

I'm about to get my jammy's on, as we are flying to N'awlinn's at 6:30 AM to get to pre-game tailgate at 10 AM.

BTW lookin' forward to some Dunedin v. Lakeland tilts this spring and summer. Jr's (who will be home this summer ) teammate from last year will start on the mound for Lakeland, High A, Detroit.

First outing of the year - 40 degree weather, fastball sat at 87-89. 2 innings, 4 ks, no walks, 1 hit. Not bad for a northern boy.

SDBB - That's not bragging, those are hard, cold facts. Tremendous achievement for a senior let alone a freshman.

Dad04 - agree with infielddad, that last link was a fascinating look into the mind of the young pitcher. Extreme confidence on the one hand - as you need to have at that level, to the honest realization of how much he had learned and improved upon since he was a freshman.

Freshmen excelling like Allan Dykstra, J.T. Wise, a neighbor kid we've watched play since he was 11, and leading hitter at LSU and others are very special players. Fungo- they DO have a bunch of banner ads. Nice pic of Jr., though. IFD, CD,....thanks!

My 07 catcher, Lenny, played in his season opener tonight. Went 1 for 3 with 2 walks and homerun. Also threw out only runner to attempt a steal. Team won 14-5. Amazingly was 70 degrees when game started. Usually playing in snow this time of year.

Carrollton Newman Smith 4, Lake Highlands 3: At Lake Highlands, Preston Claiborne struck out 10 and allowed one earned run in 5 1/3 innings to lead Newman Smith (13-5, 6-0) past Lake Highlands (12-4, 4-2) in a District 10-5A game.

Lot's of good stats here.
Big boy's first start since the no-no last Tuesday.
Playing sick threw 7 innings; 2 hits 1 walk; and lost the game on an unearned run in the 7th
Little boy pitched 3 innings struck out 6; 1 hit; and 1 walk. (Playing sick also)

Hopping for healthier days ahead. Both were about 5mph off their FB.

Rained out!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!

Although he didn't get the deceision Matt Schurig (07), Hillsborough High School, pitched a great game against Robinson High School.

Matt pitched 6 innings, allowed just 1 earned run, 2 hits, walked 3 and struck out 12. Matt's ERA for the season is around 0.67 and he is 6 - 0.

Hillsborough did win the game in the bottom of the 7th.

My son hit his 7th HR of the year last night. He is now 21-36 with 7 HR's 8 dbl's and 22 rbi's 12 games into his soph season. I am very proud of our young club which is 2-0 in conf play and 8-4 overall.

Dont know if this is just parents but Ill give it a shot anyhow

Had a double header today
1st game: 2-2 with 2 singles,1 BB
2nd game:3-4 with three singles,1 K

one of my better days at the plate!!!What really helped me drive the ball today was staying on the same plane and most importantly loading up.It really does give you a little extra pop

Looks like a nice weekend on the mound for Buddy. 7 innings, 6 hits and 2 earned runs and Mom and Dad there to watch. Another round of congrats.

Rumor has it someone is on the roster at Dunedin and with a bit of luck he will get himself some playing time, too.

I don't care what people think of me for saying this. infielddad is one of the most humble people I have ever met and it will mean alot to me and many others to see his son play in the big leagues someday. Huge congrats to Jason Armstrong for his promotion to High A ball Dunedin. As bbscout has said, keep hitting over .300 at each level and you will keep your dreams alive toward achieving the ultimate goal.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Collegiate Baseball and Louisville Slugger today named Wake Forest freshman Allan Dykstra their National Player of the Week for his recent offensive explosion.

Dykstra had one of the single greatest offensive weeks in recent Wake Forest history. The first baseman batted .786 (11-for-14) with five home runs and 11 RBI. He also added three doubles, eight runs scored and drew five walks. Dykstra recorded an absurd slugging percentage of 2.071 and on-base percentage of .850.

Dykstra opened the week with a school-record tying three home runs against Davidson on Tuesday. Dykstra was the ninth player in Wake Forest history to hit three homers in a single game and the first since Jamie D'Antona against Tennessee Tech (May 26, 2001).

He leads the ACC with 11 bombs and a slugging percentage of .784.

Evan Potter a 7th grader from Knott County Central in Hindman, KY, pitched a no-hitter against Perry Central, Hazard, Kentucky. This was a varsity game.

Evan only threw 60 pitches, struck out 7, and walked only one batter. Knott Central won the game 6-0.

I know there are some that think that throwing a 7th grader against HS boys seems dumb. This boy looks like a sophomore and plays like a junior.

Brandon Smith, also from Knott Central, is batting .385 with 4 Rbi's in the first 3 games.

Dang. Gonna be tough to top SDBB.

That's all well and good...but the question remains...can he handle the General Lee?

My son,'06 LHP, pitched a complete game no-hitter last night against our league rival! First in our school's history! Seven K's, but scattered a few walks in there. Somthing to work on.
Radar gun in front of us hit 91mph.

Team is really coming together nicely. Four Soph's starting, so we're young, but played an error-free game with several nice plays in the field. No games scheduled for 10 days, so my son can rest.
