Thanks again to everyone for the fun reports in Week 5:
http://hsbaseballweb.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6616002781/m/7221055461

If you don't mind, I'll share a few D3 college items. My son's team is playing the 5th ranked D3 in the country today and tomorrow, so I checked the list, knowing I would find some of our webster sons' teams near the top.
http://www.muhlenberg.edu/sports/abcapoll41806.pdf

The current D3 national rankings show Cortland (New York) at # 3, with turn2mom's son Ricky Piovesan leading the team in RBIs (30).
applaude

And at # 11 we have Trinity (TX), where RHPMom's son Drew Bignall and his fellow pitchers are really turning some heads! good

Let me know if I have overlooked any other member sons' teams in this ranking - I think I probably have!

Keep the reports coming for all levels!

MN-Mom - good stuff Smile Again, congrats to Jeff May!

Re: D3

I see DADDYBAGS son's team Heidelberg is ranked #7 in the Mid-East region.

Of course, infielddad's son Jason Armstrong is an alumnus of #11 Trinity and is now a member of the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

Some other anecdotal information on the D3 rankings:

My son's junior year in hs was one of those magical years where the team was nationally ranked and finished runner up in the state. Several players from that team have gone on to the next level.

Two of his former teammates went to #1 ranked Wooster and had fine freshman campaigns last year. One of them left Wooster (for a girl) last fall and tried out at Toledo where he was cut. A bonehead move in my view given the success Wooster is having this year.

Another of his teammates from that year is a sophmore at #19 Marietta.

Finally, a teammate from his summer team this past summer is at Ohio Weslyan who is ranked #5 in the Mid-East region.

I checked the list, just for kicks. I admit I sent the info to PG, but never expected anything from it:
Taylor, Jeffrey 3B/SS Heritage Lynchburg, VA R/R 5'11 170 2006
Showing great improvement in his game. He was on base all 12 times in a recent tournament hitting .889 with 6 R, and 2 SB. Taylor was named the Co-MVP
of the tournament. He is now hitting .575 after 40 AB with 6 doubles.
Our team clinched its first-ever subregion No. 1 seed and the best overall record for our region with last night's thrilling 5 -4 win in 9 innings. Region record is 12 - 1 (overall record is 17 - 5). Next week we play a best 2 of 3 series with No. 4 seed from other subregion to determine region champions and 4 spots for the state playoffs.

We have had many close games, separated by only one or two runs. Parents have nicknamed the team "Cardiac Kids". Cinderella season is capped by the fact that the administration did not renew coach's contract for next year. It has been a great ride so far ~ let's hope we can continue through the month of May!!
After going 0 for 3 thursday, I bounced back today and went 1 for 1 with 2 walks and a RBI. Unfortantly I only got to play 3 innings, because we were already up by more than 10 runs.

I pitched thursday and pitched well enough to win. I went the whole game striking out 6, but loss 3-0. We were 3 for 25 as a team with a coulple of walks, so that didn't help. And mental errors led to at least 2 unessasary runs.

My son (an 09 catcher) had his first varsity start yesterday. His team won 3-1.

No passed balls, and he helped kill a rally in the 6th inning by throwing out a runner stealing second. There was only one other stolen base, which came on a curve in the dirt he had to block, so there was no throw.

He showed himself and his teammates that he belongs at that level. It was a big day for him.
We are hoping No and No. He left this morning for the athletic trainers office. Having back spasms this week. (I just learned this today). Athletic secretary told us that the New York Giants were coming to watch him today (Ha Ha). They get confused. He is also hitting .509. He is pretty proud of that. This team we are playing today is very young. The pitcher we faced last time we played them threw about 70. They will be good when they change. classifications next year though. I think they will be 5A. Next week the fun really begins. We have played both Medford schools once and have double headers starting next Saturday. We will see what we are made of. Good luck next week.

First post here, but it's a good one.

My son's team (Concord / 22-20)handed the number 2 ranked NCAA D-II team (WV State / 40-4) in the Country it's first conference loss yesterday and only it's fourth loss of the season. A D-II thriller final score 4-3.

Concord & WV State are arch rivals year after year in the WVIAC.

Being Senior day it was an extra sweet victory for all of the Mountain Lions, including past & present players.

What a thrill...that victory will taste sweet for a long, long time. Way to go Concord...you earned it!
Rob, what about those Beavers? Blake is having fun this year with the whole package, however, he did comment that he will be fine with not hitting next year. His back is still hurting and I am sure it has something to do with hitting. He also is a good football player and actually got recruited to play college football. pull_hair At one time thought it would be fun then I think reality hit the work it would require to play both. He would have to gain about 50 lbs and grow 6 inches for the Giants to be interested.
Since my sons are all done and out of baseball am I allowed to speak of young man I coached in Little League for 4 years and then had him return to pitch for me in a tournament in the summer between his junior and senior HS years.

Thank you--I will proceed

I am speaking of BOBBY BLEVINS, Junior RHP for LeMoyne College in NY-- Bobby was just named Collegiate Baseballs National Player of the Week for his back to back two hit shutouts which were also back to back games of 14 K's and 18 K's. The 18 K game set a LeMoyne record-

Bobby is currently 7-2 with a 2.17 ERA

In his three years at LeMoyne to date Bobby is 20-10 witha 3.13 ERA

This is what it all about--to see a young man grow before your eyes--what is even sweeter I get to see him and his folks when plays summer ball for the Manchester Silkworms in the NECBL

Way to go Bobby @!!!!
My son got another opportunity Friday night, last game of the season vs. district champs.

Starting pitcher got hurt in the 2nd (we were down 3-0), he got the call and pitched through the 6th and we were up by one.

Our closers got rocked in the 7th and we lost but still a great day for AW.

A lot of butt sitting this season but he eventually got a shot.
Same tune, different words.
Junior lost his 2nd 4-hitter of the year the other day. Made the unpardonable mistake of allowing 2 baserunners in the first 5 innings, neither on a hit, both of whom scored. Walked a guy with one out, struck out the next 2 and the BB scored [SB, SB/E2]; E5 followed by 3IF groundouts sandwiched around a SB allowed E5 to score.

He allowed 4 hits in the 6th for a few runs. Now 2-14 for his career, closing in on the school record for complete games [7] and losses in a career [20 game seasons], 3 more starts this year.

What a great day! D-Ruck is humbly blessed.

With the team effort of coaches, players, trainers, sports directors, ticket takers, concession workers & parents, my son along with many other HSU teammates are recognized for a season which continues this weekend with post-season play. Though many players receive individual conference recognition, all team members participating in the success of the team have equally earned the recognition, though only a few get named.

Good day today. Team clinched it's 2nd consecutive league title. They are currently 21-4 and ranked 3rd in the section behind 2 nationally ranked teams.

On a personal note, son hit his first official HS dinger after hitting the fences so many times. He also took over the team lead in RBI's. He is listed in Who's Hot.
Update ~ Terrific Day!!!

Team won it's first ever (in school's 50 yr history) Region Championship!!!! Now are 1st seed entering state playoffs beginning next week. Currently are 19 - 5 (14 - 1 in region).

Game one won 13 - 3.

Game two won 10 - 2. Zach pitched six innings with 10 K's and NO walks!!! Teammate broke the school record for most RBIs in a season and Zach broke the school record for the most runs scored in a career. (and he still has the rest of playoffs and all next year!)

This is terrific, especially since the Coach is not returning next year, due to principal not extending coaching contract. Keep going boys!!!! applaude applaude clap Smile Big Grin
Players can be found this young, one of the last players the Orioles drafted and signed that I recommended was also a seventh grader when my wife found him sitting beside us at a Sally League baseball game when we were doing some pro coverage in mid 1990s and we eventually drafted and signed this prospect later on for around $600,000 out of HS Smile peace, Shep
What say you soothsayers?

That's real funny. Roll Eyes

Not sure how to take this post, but this kid is good. Potter pitched against a very good Madison County team last Summer here in KY and Knott County beat them by one run. He pitched a no hitter against one of the best teams in our region early in the season. And yes, he is young. In our part of the state, we don't have many kids that come out for baseball. Most rather play basketball and/or football. Knott Central is also an A rank school. At one time they were AAA. So, not many kids to choose from and sometimes a coach gets lucky. He's happened to get a couple of good players that were young (7th grade) in the past few years.

With that being said, I will not, never, overstate or make a kid look like a pro or anything that they are not. I would not hurt any kid's chances by stating lies and making him sound like a pure stud. He's far from being a pro player. This kid came out last year and started on the JV team. He eventually started playing SS on the varsity team when the starting SS went to the catching position. Coach let him pitch a couple of games against some weaker teams, and he liked what he saw. And he did very well last Summer.

Shep I really respect your post, but if this is an attempt to say that I have no clue what I am talking about or that I don't know baseball, that's your opinion. And you are welcome to it. But, I invite you to come and watch this kid. Make your own assumptions and have a good day.

Thanks so much for the update. It looks like your young 'un is the real deal. Good for him!

I hope that all of the many adults along the way steer him in the right direction. I trust that they will...he's got a bright future ahead of him if he goes about it properly.

In regards to Shep...I'm sure he is backing you up. From his post, the point I take away is that young players can sometimes be identified as a prospect.

Shep may come take a look at this Potter kid!

Again, thanks for the update...looking forward to more.
Congratulations to the

College Of Marin Mariners beat Napa Valley College 20-6 yesterday.

They went 22-5 in League and (30 -11- 1) overall to win home field advantage and the championship of the Northern Section of the Bay Valley Conference, with one game left in the season.

If they beat Napa Valley College tomorrow they will be sole champions of the section going into the playoffs against their rivals from the Northern Section, the Big 7. Santa Rosa JC of the Big 7 was the California Community College Champions last year.

Here's the sports news article on the game yesterday.

My son is greyshirting this year, and has been practicing with them. After the playoffs he will be playing summer ball where they will be playing with the SRL college summer league that ends with the AABC Championship.

I would like to brag a little on my team. Last years group went 22-3 14-0 in conference play and finished the regular season ranked #1 in the state at the 2-A level. We lost 9 seniors off of that team and 6 starters. This years team moved up to the 3-A level in a very tough conference which included the defending state champions. Well tonight we finished the regular season 17-7 and 9-1 in conference play. We won the conference championship. Doing this with 1 sr starter 2 jr starters 5 soph starters and 1 freshman in the starting lineup. The work put in in the off season was a huge part of our success again this season. I am so proud of this group of young men. It has been one of the most rewarded years as a coach I have ever been a part of. Also my son Jeff finished the regular season tonight with a .507 ba with 10 hr's 35 rbis and 18 bb's. Only 9 attempted stolen bases the entire season and he threw out 7 of them. We start our conf tourney next week then off to the state playoffs the next week. Of course we hope to do well. But regardless of what happens the rest of this season it has been so rewarding to see all of their hard work in the off season pay off for the them as individuals and as a team.
