While I am not usually inclined to use this forum to praise any one particular young ball player, this past Friday evening, I believe I saw something and someone very special. I have been attending my son's games at the Jack Cust Winter league for about five weeks. While there are certainly a lot of good players there, for the most part, the pitchers are rusty this time of year. However, Steve Garrison, a left hander from the Hun School ( headed to UNC - Chapel Hill next year) threw his first live inning this winter and everyone in attendance buzzed about how impressive he was. The Jack Cust people put the gun on him and he threw 88 - 91. His ball had major league movement, according to the minor league impire behind the plate. This kid won all 4 Carpenter Cup Games last year for Mercer County as a junior. He is bigger, stronger and pinpoints his pitches. Apparently, he keeps moving up on many major league draft lists. Most important, he is a total gentlemen on and off the field. Put Steve Garrison on your list of quality young men to watch.

Steve Garrison was one of the better pitchers (and LHP) at the 14th Annual Bear Classic-Showcase for Our National Pastime held at the University of Maryland in Aug 2004.

After briefly chatting with the parents and talented lefty, I believe Garrison is headed to UNC in the fall of 2005.
