Gear question...

I was at a UT game this weekend and I noticed that the TPX gear the catcher's were wearing was different than any I have seen available anywhere. Specifically the leg guards. Does anyone know why this is? Would these be the next generation issued early to the team? Do they try out prototype gear with college teams? I did notice that the bullpen catcher's had the more standard issue TPX gear.

Just curious.

it's probably just next years stuff. colleges usually get equipment early especially in the college world series
