The school was mostly a commuter school when it started, but has developed much more of an on campus feel. The little trees it had when it first opened in the late 70's early 80's are now big and it gives the campus a much better feel. It is a young school, but has been a real up and comer.

The school is in the Colonial league, which is solid academically. George Mason is a respected school,it's ranked #143 in national universities in the US News and World Report College Rankings (88 in business, 110 in engineering, it has a solid public relations department). I grew up just down the street. Fairfax county is jam packed with a population of 1,015,000 people (and that is just one of 15 or more counties surrounding the D.C. area). Traffic is heavy in the town. There is a ton to do in the D.C. area--just about anything you want to do really: Every major rock and country group will come through D.C. at some point, among the finest museums in the world, historical sites galore, hiking, the mountains are just 90 minutes away, etc.,. It is a HUGE job market for any major, and that is a BIG, BIG plus in this or any economy. You can find internships in just about any field you want to.

Can't speak to the baseball team, other than they are not going to be competing in the College World Series anytime soon. George Mason basketball is huge on campus and in the area. They have decent fan support for most of their sports.
