due to some problems last year i am a first year varsity player as a senior. yeah i know, just quietly "ooooh" to yourself and try not to bring attention to it, its not something i am proud of. i have not gotten the exposure i would like to get from coleeges and am stuck behind a pitcher on a full ride to Iniana U and one who if he wernt so unbelievably stupid would easily have a scholarhip somewhere, but is none the less one of the best pitchers i have ever seen. how would you recomend me getting attention to myself from colleges with my little experience? email them, have my coach email them, something else? i would like to bring in some good colleges because i am very good academically and would not like to go to a no-name junior college. thanks guys.

Brad the first thing I would do is click on the "recruiting section" of the HSBBW, read over it and pick and choose what you thing would fit your situation. CKICK HERE
I basically suggest all of the above plus a mail out letter and have your high school coach make some phone calls too. Understand that it will ultimately be your talent that secures you a spot on the roster so everything (emails letters, phone calls etc) are just activities that will open a door to allow you to showcase your talent. Inquire about the “unsigned senior” showcases that provide some exposure for those that have failed to sign. I’m sure PG or TR can help in that area. If everything else fails, you still have the opportunity to walk on at the college you chose to attend.

Similar situation for a teammate of my son's 3 years ago. Cut his junior year, so senior year was his first on varsity. He ended up at a decent D1 in spite of pitching behind Mr. Baseball in our state! So it is possible - hard work and determination!

Listen to Fungo - good advice there!
Brad:

Tonight, my son will realize only the 3rd varsity start of high school. He's a senior who had to wait his turn behind other scholarship catchers. It's not easy to be patient. You can only keep working hard at every aspect of your game.

Take every bullpen or scrimmage at-bat as an opportunity to hone your game. Keep your attitude up. Get creative with ways to be seen by the college recruiters of your choice. And never lose sight of your dream. It can be done.

Oh, by the way... My son will play next year at the Univ. of Florida.

"Dare to dream big..."
Beezer... That was cold. ...kinda like baseball in Ohio in February. loki
He's pretty pumped up about the opportunity to play for Coach McMahon at Florida. ...great opportunity, great school.

(...close to home... clap )

Hopper... The fall of my son's jr. year, he played in a program sponsored by Pendleton Baseball out of Duluth, Ga. called the D-1 tour. ...different campus each weekend across the south. UF coaches did not see him then, but another SEC head coach was impressed and recommended him to UF the following summer. (...yes, they do talk and help each other out in the off-season...old friends...) My son then played last summer for Pendleton's 18-U team, mostly in Georgia, Florida and S. Carolina. UF coaches caught up to him in Kissimmee and Marietta.

Just get on the best team you can, with plans to play the best opposition available at some of the premier tournaments. ...bring your a-game and see what happens.
