Can someone tell me how a player gets a pro scout or college coach's recommendation for a showcase if he hasn't showcased yet?

I have an 08 RHP who has not showcased yet.

He's been a part of a regional travel team for years, attending what I would consider regional and national events for years. As we know, scouts don't show up at u14, u16. So how does he get a scout's recommendations?

Thanks!

My son didn't have an opportunity to get a scout's recommendation either, so we started by applying online for an invitation to a small PG event. Someone from PG called on the phone and asked additional questions about my son's baseball experience, and based in part on the fact that he was taking private lessons from a former MLBer who they knew, they accepted him without a scout recommendation. After that small event, he was invited to a mid-level regional event (although we were not able to attend because of calendar conflicts). Top performers at a regional event would be invited to one of the major events.

You could call Perfect Game and ask to talk to someone about how your son could qualify for his first event, and they would probably help you determine which event would be appropriate. They are very nice and approachable.

Thank you for your recommendation of PG.
I was planning on checking them out. Also, any thoughts on Baseball Factory (they come to our city)?

I am still curious how players are supposed to know which scouts may have seen them play.
I've heard that most scouts try to blend in, as opposed to drawing attention to themselves.

Unless a scout contacts a coach who in turn lets the player know, I don't understand how a 15 year old would have a scout's recommendation (unless via private lessons, etc. with one).

Same with College coach recommendation. Are they typically happy to recommend a player that may have come to their camp? It seems like they would be busy with their own team and not have a lot of time helping a kid promote himself to other programs.

I'm just looking for some insight. It's a bit daunting to a "newbie."

Thanks!
Hello Coaches, Parents and Players,
I wanted to let everybody know about the J&R High School Baseball Showcase coming up this June 10th, 2006. This will be a 1-day event held in Winter Haven, FL at Chain O' Lakes Park(spring training home of the Cleveland Indians). This is a recruiting opportunity for all current Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. There has been over 250 invitations sent out to college across the country with some Professional Scouts receiving invites as well. The Showcase will be conducted in a try-out style format with players running a 60 yard dash, fielding and throwing from positions, hitting batting practice and pitchers throwing bullpens. Cost of the event is $65 pre-register and $80 day-of sign-ups. Pre-registration period ends on June 1st. Each participant will receive an event T-shirt. For any additional information or to request a pre-registration brochure please contact Justin Turner justin@probaseballtips.com or call (239)229-7286.
