It's Cashay, Cashay.

And can we also define old school?  Is it an aversion to sabremetrics?  Or is it an aversion to enabling?

Or both? Or something else?

I'm coaching a HS team for the winter and I'm pretty sure most kids are not listening to me the way I listened to my HS coaches, all of whom were as old school as they come.  They'd never heard of sabremetrics, and if you looked at them sideways, you were running sprints all practice.

It truly is wacky Friday.

Listen, there is no one who is more old school in certain aspects of the game. I believe in showing coaches and managers respect, less facial hair, shorter facial hair, no jewelry, respect for fans, your teammates, no tattoos, etc.  I also believe that the more information you give to a manager and his player, the better job they can do.

This discussion includes many others, not just those with a 2020.

I am trying to give some helpful information, maybe i shouldnt. But I can tell you something, college coaches are using more and more stats to recruit  players.  That's why PG uses the technology they do, for their benefit. So if I were you, you might want to do some homework and find out what will make YOUR player attractive to a certain program, or professional scout.

So you are refering to me as old school because my son was in HS a long time ago?

Too bad this Ole Biddy  ( yes isn't that the description you use when telling people about me) knows more about baseball than you ever will!!!!!!

Far be it for me to defend either the Yankees organization, a Yankees player or a former Yankees coach but that is exactly what I'm going to do.  Girardi got screwed.  There I said it.    The MLB-TV talking heads are telling us Farrell, Baker, and Girardi are guilty of the same thing....their old school....bring in the new guys.  Bull$hit.

It was no surprise that Dusty Baker or , John Farrell were fired despite making the playoffs.   There is huge talent on both the Red Sox and Nationals teams (I follow both very closely including their farm teams) and both under -achieved under their respective manager.  Both Nats & Sox managers were ineffective regardless of their age, or statistical ability.   Their job is to get their players to perform and exceed their team capabilities on the baseball field.   They did not.     Farrell gone.  Baker gone.   it is rough world, but I'm measured the same way in my job and I'm willing to bet many of you are as well.   This was no big shocker for Farrell and Baker.

Girardi was different.  He's young...merely 53 years old.   He seems like a fairly intelligent guy (Northwestern student), and everybody knows catchers are the brains of the operation. ;-)   So learning how to count, and put statistical formulas and numbers together is probably not  too difficult on his own or with a tutor.  He got the most of his players and team, and did an excellent job overall in the playoffs.  I've talked to a bunch of the Yankee faithful (yes I have Evil Empire friends) and they never saw this coming.   They thought Girardi was a cinch to be offered to re-sign another contract.   I'll say it again, Girardi got screwed.   The front office is putting a nice pinstripe ribbon & bow on this, and calling it a day.   Well, I hope Girardi stays in MLB coaching and rips the Yankees a new one.  Yes, I've become a Joe Girardi fan over this.

As always, JMO.

Thank you Fenway. I'm a Northwestern grad so I'm biased perhaps, but Girardi is a class act.

I do agree 100%, inside chatter is they wouldn't give him more money and longer contract, they expected him to jump at the chance.  He fooled them.

Might want to re-read my actual post.

A manager doesn't need to understand sabermetrics,he gets told what to do by the  data analysts  of the team.

When a gm says he wants a more sabermetric manager it means that the manager ignores the  reports and goes by gut feeling regardless. So this is not about understanding but about buying  in and complying.

Managing is easy this days, the book tells you everything. A good manager complies with that, pushes back his own gut feeling and and focusses on managing the clubhouse and bridges between gm and  players.

I did, if that was me you would be telling me how I was almosted kicked off for not being nice, so why would you bring up my name?

Not right and not nice. Either contribute something meaningful  to the discussion or just ignore me.

Stupid, classless move by  the Yankees.

It's almost like The Boss lives.  Too bad Yogi isn't around to tell Girardi he's better off without them.

I didn't think anything was un-nice about implying you are usually saying "things haven't changed much" and the parents of 2020's are usually saying "this game is changing"?  I can't see anything wrong or impolite in what I said, sorry you took offense, it wasn't intentional.
