I was recently (3 weeks ago) diagnosed by my pt that I had gird. Now I am in my finally in my last week of physical therapy. My pt wanted me to throw a bullpen this week so we could see where we stood at from full recovery. So I got to throw my bullpen today and it seemed like I gained some mph on my pitches. I was just wondering has this happened to anyone else?

Treating GIRD should improve velocity slightly and drastically reduce injury risk.

Thanks J Pontiac.
Kman9,
My son was also diagnosed with GIRD about a month before you, and he missed his entire junior season. Their D1 schedule starts later and finishes early. We had MRIs done on shoulder and elbow initially to make sure no other damage was done...he's clean..no surgery needed. We also got a second opinion from our Orthopedist when he was on his Spring Break trip through our part of the country.
I'm kind of surprised that your pt has you throwing bullpens since my son's diagnosis was a month before yours. My son has been throwing, but only on flat surface so far.
Can you please send me a PM or Dialogs (top right corner of page) as I'd like to compare notes on the PT regime, activities, and timelines to recover? Thanks.
My son is a catcher who missed most of his junior season of high school baseball due to a GIRD related injury. He picked up a bit of velo once it resolved. His overall arm and shoulder health is drastically improved.
He did too much when he first came back, and lost a week or two in the process.
My son is an RHP and also was treated for GIRD and a related injury. This began during the fall season in October, 2011. He completely shut down from throwing for about 8-10 weeks and did PT. Following PT he began a throwing program to slowly ramp up, which took about 6 weeks. The next steps were pitching on flat ground and slowly progressing to a mound. Overall, he came back stronger and in time for the spring HS season (Junior year). His recovery timeline may have been a little drawn out due to being in the offseason with no reason to rush things ... but I dont know this for sure.
