What's up guys, I usually just stalk Out the site but have an interestingn question for today. I'm a 2017 and therefore have been getting questionnaires, emails, and text from schools. Me and a teammate had a disagreement when it came to listing gpa. I said that you should typically put your weighted gpa while he said that he always gives an unweighted gpa to coaches. Just wondering what you guys think the correct format for this should be.

Ask the coach.  Or put both numbers down on the application.  If you have SAT or PSAT info put that down as well.

Remember this is ultimately about your fit and your money.  You don't want to be wasting your time or their time.  GPA is one measuring stick.  The coach may or may not be familiar with your high school and your associated GPA.  Chances are real good that the College's Admissions Dept is familiar with your high school or can quickly get analytical information about it.  There are a number of tools available.  So, the more information you can provide the better use of your time.

As always, JMO.

Not meaning to be a buzz kill, but that may cause you a problem.  For example, if the coach knows the admittance department will only accept a 3.0 unweighted, and you put down a 3.2 that's weighted...well It might cause you a glitch.  If you google weighted vs. unweighted GPA you will see that each college has their own way of doing things.  Some include the class PE, while others exclude it, some only count certain courses while others will take a weighted GPA.  I had a thread on this awhile back:

I would listen to Fenway and put both.

Tell me which schools these are.  My son could use the bump up.

Honestly, that won't matter as when you register with the NCAA, PE is NOT one of the classes that factor into your GPA.  I guess it could theoretically help if that's what the college looks for.

This is true.  My son's Div 1 school only looked at core courses.

Hence why I think many players problems won't be unweighted vs. weighted GPA's it will be what the heck even makes up my GPA.

I spoke to a Guidance counselor at my son's high school and she flat out said they have a different excel spreadsheet for each college.  They plug in the numbers from the kids transcript ONLY into the boxes that are on the form, then it gives the GPA the way the school wants it.  This could mean weighted, unweighted, excluding everything except the core subjects...etc.

According to their GPA calculations for the HS a 100% in PE weights the same as a 100% in math....which just seems wrong.

I know they could care less, but they always ask two pointed questions: "What academic awards have you won" and "what athletic awards have you won?"
