ConfusedThen you should never ever do tee drills?

I can go further but chew on the above for a bit

Many pro ballplayers certainly play golf (though I would suggest it's more popular with pitchers because of days off....and we all know how good their swings are! Wink) But this is, yet again, a situation where what the pros do and what our sons should do are two radically different things.

Our players are still developing and swings --- golf or baseball --- are muscle memory. When I was coaching, I could recognize guys who took up golf between seasons; balance off and a dip in their swing.

A couple of games isn't going to hurt; will he stop at that?
The youth players tend to develop uppercuts if they also play golf. Usually the HS age players have their swings locked in enough that a little golf won't make a difference, but why take a chance?

I've actually been trying to make my golf swing more like a baseball swing in some ways and it seems to help, but a lot of things have seemed to help for a while.

In tee drills is the ball at your feet ?????--

No but that was not your point. If it is your point now, it makes sense not to play golf.

Some scouts I've talked with said you can play, some say no.

Some say if your hitting good you can play golf but if you're hitting bad you can blame it on playing golf.

We had a High A player staying with us and he swore golf made him hit better. He did have his best games the day after he golfed.

I'm not saying it's ok to play golf. It's individual.

I did what you did, Cong. Taught my son to bat left, and golf right. Same thing my dad did for me. The benefits are many - far beyond preventing the golf swing from screwing up the bat swing. Helps overall coordination to swing from both sides, helps eye-hand, body control, etc.

My dad did the same to me. However, back in the day of the mashie and niblick Big Grin he did it because lefthanded clubs were tough to come by and he could always use the excuse that he was "passing them down" when he wanted a new set.

FUN FACT: Now if you were playing polo you would not have that option of "going the other way" because I think polo is the only sport or game Smile that rules do not allow you to play lefthanded.

Variously attributed:

"I never knew how hard baseball was until I started playing golf; that ball just sits there and WAITS for you to hit it."

"When I hit a ball I want somebody else to chase it."

Plus all the comments about how the crowd must be completely silent during a golf swing, but if some barber is sending in 98 mph chin music with the game on the line, the crowd is actively encouraged to make like a squadron of C130's taking off.....

I heard Peter Jacobsen once say: "Well, give us guaranteed contracts and the crowd can scream all they want."
i always thought golf screwed up your swing but both my kids play..... er well maybe what they do isn't really golf.but one has hit over 500 2 years juco the other hit 400 in hs. so i'm quiet about it now. but i think it is an individual thing.the trouble is you don't know till it happens.
