Just curious about something.

It seems to be common knowledge that Righties generally throw harder, or rather a right hander must throw harder in order to stand out. But what I don't understand is why a left handed thrower generally doesn't throw as hard as a comparable right-hander. Seems to me the mechanics are the same, the bodies are generally the same. Yet the results are not the same. Can anyone explain why that would be?
It has nothing to do with which side you pitch from, just ask Randy Johnson. The big difference is that there are way more right handed pitchers than lefties. There are a ton of HS and college righties that don't throw over mid-80's, but there aren't that many lefties that pitch at all, so its easier to make it as a lefty if you can throw strikes, make the ball move, hit your spots and change speeds.

Being a quality pitcher is job one from either side, its just that with so many righties the ones who blow gas are the ones that tend to stand out. Many coaches are just grateful to have a lefthander that can pitch effectively, and if he can bring it so much the better. There is a HS junior in our area that is a lefty that's been clocked at 92-93. He wouldn't think lefties are at any disadvantage speed-wise.
