Long toss... some people think it helps, other people know it does not help. It's okay if the purpose of long toss is to just build up your intensity before a game, or if you've taken an extend break from throwing and you just want to get the arm throwing again, but other then that... it has no other purpose.
It doesn't help give OF's cannons, if that were true then the BoSox would have their OF on a strict long toss program.
It doesn't help pitchers velocity, because pitching and long toss are 2 different things.
And DYK, that long toss after 180 feet puts increased stress on the arm. They have studies to prove it and I can post one on here if you want.

(Sorry if this is turing into a mini novel here) but I know some people think that all pitchers long toss before a game but it isn't true. Anyone know who Johan Santana is? He doesn't long toss before a game? Sure he goes back maybe 130-150 feet or so, maybe even less, but he does it just to get his intensity up before he goes onto the mound

Mind if I ask what position your son plays?
I've never heard anyone in baseball who is against long toss. If so, maybe I just missed it. There are many professionals who do it. There are many colleges who practice it. There are many baseball people who swear by it.

I think it was "Bighit"? that once posted a very good long toss program on this board. Not sure how to find it though.
