I just wanted to tell everyone that my pathology reports came back and my mouth is cancer free! I did have some abnormal cells but the dentist thinks he removed enough of the affected area that with regular chekups and most importantly no more tobacco use, that I should be fine! Thank you for all of the well wishes and prayers. It is a load off my mind! Baseball players..stay away from spit tobacco. It will give you cancer. If I continue to use, I am signing a contract with cancer. Learn from my mistakes, and chew gum, eat seeds, mint, whatever, just get that stuff out of your mouth. It does not help you become a better player and when you do make to the pros and you are playing for me, I will make you take it out of your mouth anyway! Baseball is cracking down on tobacco use in the minor leagues. The fines are heavy! I know big leaguers on TV are doing it, but that doesn't make it right. There are many habits those guys practice that are not honorable. CHEW SUGARLESS GUM!

Thank you all for the kind words and well wishes. Yes it is a great relief! I learned a the most valuable lesson of my life so far. I have addressed our players in extended spring training and told them my story as well. Normally, most managers and coaches turn the other way when players are dipping or chewing. Well, not in the Detroit Tigers extended spring program. Myself and the other manager, Benny Castillo, have a zero tolerance policy. Most of the players are scared from my story anyway, but those who aren't, we are not going to let slide. Again thank you all, and please if you know someone who is using, please share this story with them, or better yet, give me a shout and let me share. Take care and God Bless.
