The point is umpires hardly ever changed their calls before. It seemed, even if another ump had a "better view" he would never open his mouth. Now they seemed more concerned with getting the call right.
They've always been concerned with getting the call right. What's changed is the mechanic.

And this mechanic, the huddling, has changed some correct calls to incorrect calls. The umpires are still sorting out who to listen to. There is no guarantee that another umpire is correct. You use the term "better view". There is no way, on the field, in real time, to determine if the other umpire's view is indeed "better."

This, more than anything else, may speed up expanded use of replay.
