Grapevine defeats the big dawgs in District 6-5A. Grapevine beat LD Bell on April 4th, 6-1. In his first Varsity start, sophomore lefty Cooper Hess pitched 6 strong innings, surrendering 1 run and recording 8 Ks. Senior closer Brandon Koch gave LD Bell little hope in the 7th, stiking out the side. In a cross-town rivalry game between Grapevine and Colleyville Heritage, Grapvine came out on top 5-3, scoring 4 runs in the 6th. Colleyville's 7th inning rally fell short. Junior righthander Connor McGuire pitched a complete game and ran his season record to 6 - 1. Grapevine is riding a 6 game win streak.

Grapevine defeated LD Bell 1 - 0 in a tiebreaker for 2nd place in 6-5A. Grapevine used 7 pitchers, one inning each, in the shutout. Grapevine plays Cedar Hill in Round One in a win or go home showdown at Irving HS, Friday, May 4 at 7:30. Grapevine will likely face hard throwing righhander Caleb Hamrick. We'll see in Grapevine's deep lineup is up to the challenge.

Wow...was kinda neat to get this notification re: this post about my kiddo and take it as a compliment to his abilities. However, can't say for sure who will pitch and if it is him, how Grapevine will or will not do. As you all know, each day is a different day in baseball. Cedar Hill is happy to be playing in May and win or lose, we'll be there. Good luck to both teams.
Looks like 6-5a owned 5-5a this year. Haven't seen a box score but surprise games were bell over legacy and grapevine over ch. Did ch throw their ace? His mom didn't seam to know the other day if he was throwing but of course why would ch have wanted only a one game playoff??? Kinda of fun to see the one game coaching decisions back fire!
Come on Isball. I agree with Aleebaba, show some class. I back 6-5A like you, but let the scores do the talking.

Hambrick is a quality pitcher no matter the outcome of this one game. Best of luck to him and the other CH seniors and I wish them tremendous success in post HS ball.

On the subject of 6-5A, they don't get the cred, but they have their first 3 seeds moving on to play more ball. I hope they can move on farther to represent our district even better. Best of luck to the Panthers, Mustangs and Blue Raiders!

Thank you for those reply post guys. Isball, I'm just a mom, not a coach. I don't question the coach's decisions on strategy or on the field tactics or whether or not "my son is going to pitch today." My assumption was like most, yes he probably would. The decision to have a one game playoff series did not back fire. We honestly don't have the depth in positions some teams have and it was a no-brainer, go all or nothing. We ended up with nothing. Such is life. My son will go on to do well at the next level. Winning or losing to Grapevine will not define him. But I did kinda like the way Grapevine's student section cheered for him so calling out his name like they did over and over. Smile Not to mention how rude they were to some of our parents. Did I mention that we lived in Grapevine and moved to Cedar Hill when he was four? He would be playing for Grapevine had we not and then I wonder how well you would receive him? I will say the Grapevine coaches are great. They were at four or more of our games early on and the head coach complimented him as they went through the lineup at the end of the playoff game and told him he was something special. In any event, I will rise above your post and say good luck to you and yours in the 2nd round. TTHL!!!!!!!!
Grapevine has won 13 of 14. Both starting pitchers in the Grapevine vs Cedar Hill game were impressive. Grapevine got a timely HR at a critical part of the game. Other than that, this game could have gone either way. The Southlake series will be a good one. Can't wait to see if Grapevine can keep this going.
OK... Weather, Start times, and suspended games: here it is since rain could/will be a factor on Friday

High Schools can only play 2 games in one day, hence if you have a 3 game series and don't get your game in on Friday you have to drop to a single "win or go home" game.

Weather: Lighting... the game MUST be stopped if cloud to ground lighting is seen (NO MATTER HOW FAR AWAY or NO MATTER THE DIRECTION the storm is headed) or thunder is HEARD. At this point you cannot restart field activities with players for at least 30 min after the last sound of thunder or Lighting FLASH (CLOUD TO CLOUD lighting...flashes, so that counts it is not the last cloud to ground lighting seen... again NO MATTER HOW FAR AWAY). Don't give the umpires grief on this... it is for safety reasons...

We were told by UIL you can start a game up to 11:59PM on Friday and it still counts as a Friday game (though it may go to 3AM Saturday or more). Then you can play the other 2 later whenever on Saturday.

A game started on Friday and not finished is a suspended game and it is picked up at that same point (later that day or the next) it is not restarted from the beginning. If it is suspended and it is reschedlued to start the following day it counts as one of 2 games that could be played the same day by both teams...

In a 3 game series -
if you get into the 7th inning on a Friday night game and play is suspended and can't resume until Saturday, the game will resume from the 7th inning on Saturday and that is it. No more games.
It converts to a 1 game series.

Yes...that is how it has been put to us, but UIL always has the ability to grant special permission to modify those rules if it wants to...a few years ago they allowed a final game of a 3 game series to start @ 3AM on a Sunday morning because of HUGE weather problem that year...
UIL is very stingy with this though. Four years ago, we played game #1 and lost 12-2. Won game #2 on Saturday 6-0...game #3 was rained out. Ask about pushing game to Monday and we were told we had to revert back to the first game and it became a one game series. It seems to me that it has to be something pretty serious once one game is played...at least that is how I took it after being scre (never mind)
What a game it was. The place was absolutely packed.
Stands packed, people in fold out chairs and people standing in any place they could to see the field. I arrived in the 2nd inning and stood for the whole thing. 12 innings and only 2 pitchers worked per team. A walk off HR ends it and SLC moves on.
Congratulation to Grapevine on a great season. You represented 6-5A extremely well.
