Over the past two days the 14 Year Old division was hosted by Londonderry. This was a great chance to see some of the next generation of high school players. Overall the quality of ball played was highed. In the first round Londonderry defeated the Derry Rush, then the Maruaders topped the Concord Cannons and in the night cap the Plastow Hornets defeated the Derry Storm, despite the pitching efforts of Brandon Palquin, a kid to keep an eye on over the next few years. This kid is a big right hander with a good fastball. Day two started with an extra innings affair where Londonderry would defeat the Hammerheads 5 to 4 in 8 innings behind a masterpiece tossed by Ryan Maloney. This young man was hands down the top pitcher in the entire tournament. He has a plus fastball, a solid duece and today he alway made the big pitch. LHS here comes another solid arm, I would imagine we will see him in a varsity uniform by his sophomore year. Second game of championship Sunday had the Marauders over the Hornets to pair Londonderry vs. Marauders in the Championship game. Londonderry rolled out another stud on the hill Nick Zachilli who tossed a complete game victory, leading his squad to a 7-4. Overall a pretty good two days, great effort by all players, to me its good signs of whats coming up the pipe.

Maloney is a very good pitcher. He played with my son on an AAU team this past season. Ryan was a very solid number two or three starter behind their ace Terry Dugdale of Amherst NH. Terry throws about 5 mph harder than Maloney, has a nasty slider, and a good change-up. He was called up to the Souhegan High School Varsity last year as a freshman and was shut-down out of the bullpen. He pitched a no-hitter for the SHS Freshman team early in the season, and a perfect game for his AAU team a couple of weeks ago at the AAU Nationals in FL. If both he and Ryan comeback for the NE Diamond Dawgs next year, they'll have of the toughest One-Two starters in New England.
I was administrating at the 14 year old wood bat tournament and agree on Maloney he was impressive. He also made a very nice play at thirdbase in the championship game vs. the Mauraders.

I wish I had the name of the kid but one of the guys on the Hornets #10 maybe? Infielder who was crushing the ball.

A lot of real close 1-2 run games, extra innings, etc. a 5th vs. 7th seed championship game speaks to the level of competitiveness this season. Well done by all players and coaches.

If Terry is really that much better than Ryan, Souhegan has a real Stand out. I think that is great, I look forward to seeing him pitch in the future.

Just to be clear...I'm not disparaging Ryan by any means. Great kid with a great future, however, you are correct, Terry is a standout that has been working with Marc Deschenes for a couple of years. The Souhegan coach dropped the ball by not having him on the Varsity roster from day one and using him as a starter. I would expect him to be the ace of their rotation next year as a sophomore.

I just flipped through my large stack of registration forms for the Fall Showcase League and don't see a Terry Dugdale in there. LJ if you have contact with this young man pass along this link if you would. www.nhbaseball.org

I pretty sure it will be conflict for him. He's an excellent football player as well and likely can't commit to a league, but I'll see that he gets the information. Thank you.
