From a USA Today article, it looks like Gunnar is experiencing ongoing memory and seizure issues from the head injury.
From some of the comments, there is reservation as to whether he will be able resume baseball, or wants to even try. More importantly, there is reservation about his ability to rejoin his class at Marin Catholic and perform adequately on the academic side.
So many of you helped with your thoughts, prayers, concern and caring. It would be great if you could keep those heading in the direction of Gunnar and his family.
And...if you have a little extra, could you share it with Cole Schlesner in Cincinnati.
Here is a little of his situation:

"Cole Schlesner, injured in a game of the Cincinnati STIX traveling team on May 17, 2009, was taken by helicopter to the city's Children's Hospital, where he had surgery to remove part of his skull, making room for his swollen brain.

When he awoke from his coma, he could not talk or walk and his right side was paralyzed. Despite up to nine hours a week of outpatient rehabilitation, he has difficulty walking and lacks full use of his right side. His cognitive development has improved to where he can function in school with some accommodations, but recently he has lost the ability to articulate some syllables and words.

His father estimates the cost of his care so far at between $750,000 and $1 million, with 80% to 90% covered by insurance.

"He will be forever changed," Scott Schlesner says. "Short of losing one of your kids, this is probably the worst nightmare I can imagine anyone having to go through."

'You don't have to be a great player to play in the major leagues, you've got to be a good one every day.'

Thanks for the caring update Infielddad. We would all like to think the road to recovery is a short and quick one. We will certianly keep Gunter in our thoughts and prayers for many days to come. With as much as our medicine knows about healing the body, head injuries remain too much a mystery.

Cole too shall be lifted up in prayer by many here that believe in the healing power of prayer. Remember to give thanks for what we have and take for granted.
My prayers continue.

I talked with a HS teammate of Gunnar and his father last week...plays on my son's summer team (just never realized it before).

This was a very, very horrible accident from a firsthand account both at the accident and in the days and weeks after.

We are very, VERY lucky to have Gunnar with us today by these accounts. We came within an eyelash and a little later a few hours of losing him. I had read it was touch-and-go...but never realized just how razor thin the line was.

The power of prayer is a beautiful thing...you/we all helped and we will continue to help.

Go Gunnar go!

The news on Gunnar is a little more encouraging according to Gunnar's sister, Kalli, and her latest note on the Caring Bridge website. Kalli mentions that the family just returned from a vacation to Sweden and that Gunnar is getting ready for upcoming s****r tryouts! While he is not entirely back, sounds like he is making some significant strides.
