I read this earlier. It sounds like he's making progress, especially with his wife and kid's support.

And it especially sounds like he really wants this career in baseball. I think that even if he does get suspended again in the near future that MLB should realize the extreme effort this fella has put up, and be easier on him. Trust me, if you know/or have yourself been involved with drug/alcohol problems, than you know how hard it is to overcome...especially since the problem is rooted deep down inside in your personality because of the way you've been raised or because of some traumatic even in your life, or from something that you needed as a child but didn't get (like a little support from your parents).

So yeah, these issues aren't easy to get through, I think this fella deserves a lot of credit for getting as far as he has gotten.

Plus he hasn't practiced in a while and to put on a BP performance like that, i have a hard enough time returning to my original level of talent after not practicing simply for a couple days, lol.
Josh Hamilton is a perfect example of Parents Competely Living through their kids. Hopefully some parents will learn from this, but they likley will not.

A little back ground. Info came from many MLB scouts, agents, parents of teammates of Josh Hamilton and from meeting the dad of Josh Hamilton.

The parents very baldy wanted to have a son that reached the majors. Older son was pushed tremendously. Finally had enough, quit baseball joined the army.

Next Up Josh. Had alot of MLB talent. One big problem, parents extremely over protective him. View him as an investment, not their kid. Josh could hardly go anywhere with mom or dad watching him. Zero social skills, never been on a date or attend the prom when he went into pro ball.

Mom and dad quit their job to follow Josh( 3.96 million bonus) to every minor league game and practice 1st year.
Meanwhile Josh is getting alot of attention now from the female race and others because he has money, (drug dealers and strippers.)

In the first 4 years of minor league ball, gets 26 tatooes, hooked on steriods, coke, pregnancy, 2 broken engagements, crashed 3 cars, and suffers from depression. Plus fails 6 drug tests.

I've got mixed emotions over the whole story. I got to talk from time to time with Josh when he was playing A ball her in Charleston. Very nice guy...great with the kids...so it was a shocker that he hit the roadblocks like he did.

Yes, his family traveled with him. Andy, if you think about it, there may have been a reason for that, because his problems started when they let him on his own. They may have known that he had potential for destructive behavior, and were trying to keep him out of trouble.

Addiction is a many headed monster. He's saying all the right things, but then again, that's what addicts do....tell you what you want to hear. I hope he stays straight, because this is likely his last chance.

And just think...Barry Bonds has Grand Jury testimony showing that he used illegal substances, and he's not suspended pending an investigation. How ironic.
I seriously doubt Tom Rizzi that Josh is gonna be worried about what is written on the HS baseball web. He has gotten as many chances as Steve Howe. Do you honestly think any other player doing that stuff , would still be around , unless they have 3.96 million in vested in him.

YOu can invite him over for dinner with OJ too
Andy, what he did to get him arrested is just another tentacle of the addiction demon. I hope he makes it, but history is definitely against him.

You're right...the only reason he's still getting a chance is because the Rays have $4 million invested in him. If he'd been a 48th round pick getting a thousand dollar bonus, you'd probably have never heard of him and his problems.

I'm sure there are Rays front office personnel and fans wishing they'd have signed Beckett instead...of course, they could have been smarter and not given the $10 million bonus to Matt White, or $4 million to Bobby Seay, or wasted money on over the hill former superstars. However, I hope Hamilton makes the best of his last chance, and doesn't join Toe Nash in prison.
