Hello,

I found some old threads/topics on strength of college summer leagues on HSBBW.

Curious if anyone has an updated list or opinion on the relative challenges and strength of these 2 leagues for a player the summer after Freshman year.

Saw some 2014 players son knows did pretty well this summer,

While others stumbled a bit or perhaps were over-matched..

-Interested to hear if your son played in either this summer and how it went / he liked it?

Thank you

Surprised you haven't gotten any real feedback on this one.  I don't really know much about the Hampton's League, but I do live near some Future League teams and I think as a league it is fairly well thought of.  My son was supposed to play Futures this year prior to his freshman year but he had a little arm soreness so he pulled out to get rest and therapy so he'd be ready to start school.

Thank you for info 9&7, people may be away pre-Labor Day.

Coach discussed both with son which he felt was a choice type presentation.

.

Just heard an hour ago the president of the Hamptons League called college coach on son,

know there is work and challenges in both leagues,

Atmosphere wise, nice to play in the Hamptons the summer after freshman year.

Off-line usual feedback from a couple of pro scouts was play where scouts know you so they look for you to continue following you.

If it helps you decide based solely on scouts and connections... The president of the Futures League was an agent for a few local players - he certainly has a lot of connections and is a high energy guy (my oldest son played AAU baseball for him).  The Nashua franchise is owned by the same guy as the Lowell Spinners (Red Sox A short season team) and I know other teams have owners/GMs with connections.

My middle son played a half season in the Futures League a few summers ago - great experience, a lot of games though. One of his buddies played this past summer and ended up breaking records for HRs and RBIs - he's been visiting a couple of places after the summer for the purpose of perhaps getting signed to some Fall League. My youngest got asked for a tryout about halfway through this summer, but alas it was the same day we had just visited a doctor about a shoulder injury/issue (suffice to say he was sooo disappointed on many levels).

The Futures League has teams in NH, MA, and CT so there's quite a bit of travel - if nothing else it'll give a player a taste of what it might be like riding on a bus for a few hours before and after games if they get drafted onto an A- AAA team. Nothing like a ride back from a late night game at Martha's Vineyard on the "last" ferry for the evening (or vice versa)!  Just like choosing for college - do your research - there's information online about both Leagues.  Hard to compare against results of "other players" that your son knows. He has to have his own confidence and know what his abilities are. Catchers like pitchers are "necessities" on all summer league teams - as some coaches put it - other position players are "easy" to find.

JohnF, appreciate the insight,

we know people who played, coached or are on the board in the Hamptons League so your notes on the Futures League are great insights.

Ultimately, the college coach has final say, with a few days for son to think about it so Thank You for your timely post.

Hope your son's shoulder is healed up.

Morning JohnF,

Thanks again for feedback.

Son met with coach yesterday, Coach feels Futures is more challenging than Hamptons league now (in his experience) so wants son and 2 other guys to play in the Futures League next summer.

His hope is it's a good stepping stone to possibly Cape Cod the next summer if they perform.

Coincidentally a scout who follows son called last night and said similar things.

We'll see how it goes.

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend.
