Happy Birthday to Yogi

A dear friend gave me an autographed copy of Yogi's book a few years back; wonderful stuff.

Although there was something exceedingly frightening in there....a photo that showed that our Yogi is the image of his.....mother.

Yogi also was a two time MVP i think. My favorite Yogiism was his response about going to a particular restaurant: He said " nobody goes there anymore--it's too crowded."

Gotta love Yogi 5-8????? How many threads have we had around here lately wondering about size for catchers????

Even more impressive, when Yogi played, I'll bet most athletes in the nation were aspiring baseball players. Nowadays, with football, basketball....etc. How many kids careers would be over after high school if suddenly a large majority of all U.S. athletes decided to focus on baseball.

Just outstanding for his era - and most others.

On a milestone such as his birthday, like the man himself said "when you come to a fork in the road, take it."

I met Yogi at the golf course with his son Dale in the early 90's.

What a nice man.

Yogi, A 15 time All Star, 3 time MVP (51,54,55) and won 10 World Series rings as a player and another 9 as a Mgr. and coach.

Most amazing thing was that he hit 358 home runs and the most strikeouts he ever had in a year was 38. One year he had 597 AB's and only struck out 12 times.

Simply amazing stats. Why did it take so long (1972) to get him into the Hall of Fame? Seems to be a no brainer.
