Ok, I'll kick it off!

Happy Thanksgiving to all you here on the HSBBW and those that I have befriended here over the years! Each one of you in some way or another have been a tremendous wealth of support for my son, and me many many times, i.e. an opportunity, advise, a kind word, encouragement, etc. etc. I'm quite thankful for each of you.

I challenge each of you tomorrow if and when you're with family to pause a moment and give thanks. In the hustle bustle world we live in I think it does the soul good to slow down and just be thankful for the things we DO have in our lives.

I'm thankful my son has had the opportunity to play baseball after high school and though this is his last year (possibly), the journey's and lesson's that baseball has afforded him and our family over the years is unmatched and unequaled. My gratitude could never be expressed for this great game and the people we have met along the way.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

At this moment, I am most thankful that my younger brother has survived the past week and is on the road to recovery. A very bad case of pneumonia led to a helicopter ride to the hospital, 5 days in intensive care, and surgery on his lungs.

Sometimes it takes rough times to help us remember what's important. Don't forget to tell your family and friends that you love them.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Julie
A blessed Thanskgiving to all!

Isn't it great we have a holiday to give thanks to God for our blessings, and it hasn't been washed over by 19 religions crying foul? I guess the love of food overcomes all political correctness, but before long, the President will need to pardon a turkey, a crow, a pig, a cow, and a duck...to keep everyone happy.

YoungGunDad: it was great getting to know your boy a little last summer and he is indeed a classy classy guy. One of the many blessings I'm thankful for is to have gotten to know some of the posters on here, and a number of their sons for a summer season. There are just some truly wonderful people out there in the baseball world.

I'm so grateful to hear that your younger brother is recovering Mom. His pulling through is certainly something to be thankful for. I have a similar story to tell regarding my older brother. The lumber truck he was driving last month decided to roll over and take a nap on US Highway 6 just east of Tillamook, OR. His tool box, which was loose in the cab, got after him. He suffered, among other things, six broken ribs with four of them having multiple fractures. I'm happy to report that he has started back to work doing 'light duty' tasks. He's a great guy and we're all very thankful he is getting back on his feet.

And I'm also grateful that this didn't happen a week earlier. I had spent an entire week riding with him and catching up on the past forty years. We're closer than ever now. And that's very good!

God bless you 20dad. I'm so grateful to have met you here on the HSBBW. We've never met, but I consider you one of my best friends. And all for the right reasons. You've shared with me and I've learned a lot. Thank you friend.

Indeed!

And thank you YoungGunDad for starting this thread. We all have much to be thankful for. I have just one question for you though...what is this 'hustle bustle' you refer to? I seem to have forgotten what that means. Wink

Wow - after reading that, I'm thankful that both Julie's and gotwood4sale's brothers will overcome some very trying situations.

Health is one of the most important "things" to be thankful for and it seems many of us need to lose it before we find it if that makes any sense.

I am thankful for the hsbbweb and the friends I've met here from all over the country. Thankful that YoungGunDad started this thread and still very much thankful for all the prayers I received here when the chips were down for me and my health.

I am glad to report that I learned my lesson and no longer take my health for granted. I've gotten myself back into shape and feel like I am going to live to be over 100 years old. I want to return the blessing I've received and help others get back to their good health. It's not that hard to do actually. The food supply in this country is goofed up with all the inexpensive and unfortunately dangerous processed food out there. We need to go back to those things our parents taught us about eating your basic fruits, vegatables, and lean meats.

Today however is not the time for diets. Time for good food and family and yes, to give thanks. This holdiay is unquestionably my favorite of them all.

God bless all of you on this wonderful day! Smile

I'm right there with you CD. We're both on the same track to wising up and being more healthy. Your comments...

Could not be more true! Thank you for sharing that. It does indeed feel good to feel good again!

Julie & Gotwood, wow...I am so glad to hear that both of your Brother's are in a better place healthwise today and on the road to recovery!

Gotwood, you know, I think that the definition of hustle bustle here in Georgia probably doesn't hold a candle to the definition you have there in the 'burbs of Chicago so I digress! LOL

My nephew left out on Monday for Army bootcamp. I'm thankful that there are still young men and women like him in our country today that want to preserve and fight for the freedoms and liberties of our great country. God bless America and those that are in harms way today instead of being with family and friends.

Yes, I AM a turkey----I thought I bought 12 pound turkey---nope- it was a 17 pounder---I saw the sell by date--12.12, rather than the weight! Oh well.....gobble gobble......

I, too, am grateful for the highschoolbaseballweb family. We share your gratitude, your happiness, and your sadness. We tuck you into our prayers---especially your families who have loved ones in the military, or who are dealing with illnesses.

My mom passed away in September--after surgery to repair the hip that she broke after she took a tumble....I am grateful to have had her for as long as I did. I am also grateful that my children were very close to her. She was truly their grand "mother".

May God's choicest blessings be yours.

20dad,

I have been thinking of you, as I'm sure many here have been. It's good to hear from you. God bless you.

Woodman,

Sorry to hear about your brother's accident, but glad that he is able to get at least partially back to work. My brother is still in the hospital with several tubes coming out of his chest, but at least no longer in ICU.

Annette,

Sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I know that you and your family were a blessing to her in her last years.

Julie
play baseball I am so sorry to hear about your mom. May God grant you the peace that he can only give. Julie and Woody I will be praying for your brothers.

Good for you CD and your so right about the food we eat in this country. I am glad to hear you have gotten yourself into to good shape again.

I have so many things to be thankful for. Really too many to list here. I am also very thankful for the HSBBW and the family we have here. I don't post nearly as much as I once did. But I still read the site almost daily. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving day and has a great Christmas as well. Enjoy the time with your children and family.

"Enjoy the time with your children and family."
We always do! And you enjoy your time with your children and family as well. Thanks for the well wishes.

And Mom...where you can, through the tangle of tubes, give your brother a hug for us. Family is always precious, but even more so when difficult circumstances arise. It is good to read your brother is being taken care of so well and is on the mend.

One word of caution though...have your brother be aware of any signs of infection after he is released. If he has any hint that there may be an infection please have him see a doctor. An infection nearly took me after the procedure I had done seven years ago. From that experience we learned to be our own persistent advocate when being cared for. And especially afterward.

My brother complained to me a couple of weeks ago about a pain that had come up on the top of his foot. He thought he had 'slept on it wrong'. Something didn't seem right and I strongly urged him to have it checked out. A few days later he called to thank me. The pain was being caused by an infection. He was quite relieved to have it taken care of quickly.

So to all...be aware of infection. If they get up a head of steam, and they can without displaying a whole lot of outward signs, they can put you down for good. Speak up!

Happy belated Thanksgiving to everyone on HSBBW. The site and the people I've met on here over the years has been something I never expected when first coming on here to learn hw my son could make his freshmen year of Hs baseball. Glad to hear about family members healing and healthy.
Playbaseball So sorry to hear about your mom dying after the hip
Surgery. My mom died the day after Thansgiving from infection from hip replacement.I miss her and it's been eight yearsFrown
I'm a little nervous as I have a hip surgery coming up. I can't forgo it as its affecting my quality of life. Please keep me in your prayers as I want to be here longerSmile
This website and members kept me sane through all that baseball brings to the table. I thank you all for that.

fanofgame---we absolutely will keep you in our prayers. But do heed as gotwood4sale advises--which you are all too familiar with--infection. My mom's doctor told us that in the elderly, repeating in the ELDERLY, 30% patients of hip surgeries don't make it. It sounds like both of our mothers were in that category. I'm pretty sure you are not in the category of "elderly". But do keep a very sharp eye out for ANY and ALL signs of infection----or pain that doesn't seem right.

Good luck and God bless you.
