Mom, I know it may come across as that old saying "Don't call us, we'll call you" but TR is right. These Coaches are just trying to get the best out there and they may already have an idea who they want. But there is always that sleeper!

I would recommend that your son keep looking as well. If they call, respectfully tell them that another great opportunity came up that couldn't be passed by.

Good luck!
BaseballMom, hopefully your son is playing for a summer team that is providing exposure to at least a few college coaches.

Thanks Infield he tried out for NCTC & Tarleton and they were the ones who told him they had one more kid to look at. He is at Cisco today for their tryouts. Monday he is trying out at Weatherford. He plays summer ball with the Fort Worth Cats. He is trying to get out there so we will see if it pays off for him. He debated going to the Jr college showcase since he had already tried out at NCTC. I know Cedar Valley was interested but I am not ready to put him up in an apartment so that ruled them out and I think that would rule out Brookhaven. I try to read the camp, showcase and tryouts forum to keep him on top of it. Thanks for any help you have to offer. I know I am his Mom and I am partial but this is a good ball player and more importantly to me a good kid. Here is a link to the MVP Award presentation from his HS Coach please listen and see what you hear and would that be a good reference. Like I said I am the proud Momma and am not always impartial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXKrJt0qkgw Thanks for all your imput.

That is impressive and imho is a very good reference. There are coaches out there who those words will resonate with. I believe there are places at the next level where your son can thrive. He sounds like a hard worker and someone willing to do whatever the team needs. He said if they had nine of him they would still be playing so that says he is a winner.

Although the coach mentioned he might not be the most talented player he ever coached, keep in mind that is at the high school level. In four years, and if your son applies himself, he may in fact turn out to be the most talented player that coach has ever coached.
BaseballMom, it sounds like your son is well on his way to finding a place to play in the fall.

The Fort Worth Cats are a good team and he should get some nice exposure.

I don't know the new Tarleton coach, but Scott Harp at NCTC is a terrific coach and one with a lot of character. I doubt that he was blowing smoke when he told your son what he did.

If I were your son, I would go to the jr. college showcase in either Gainesville or Corsicana since other colleges will be there also. Afterwards, if he doesn't get an offer from one of those schools, he might want to email Coach Harp and ask if he knows of other schools that might be interested in him. Since he is familiar with your son's skills, he might be able to help.

Loved the MVP video. It's obvious that your son is highly valued by his high school coach! You might want to ask his h.s. coach if he has any college contacts and perhaps he can put in a good word for him.

Best wishes and let us know how things turn out!
Thanks ClevelandDad! We know he is not the most talented but he is very good. One of the best as his coach said and he has coached some very good players. I don't think he has set his sights too high when he says he wants to play at a JUCO level. It will all work out for him like it is supposed to. I can't help but feel like it is our job as parents to help/teach him to open the doors and what he does after that is his responsibility.

Good Advice.

What impressed me the most was his High School coach is a man of few words and normally splits the award between a few seniors and we told Andy to be prepared for that. I think I can honestly say my son has earned his respect and that make me so proud of him as a person not just a ballplayer.

I had heard that about Coach Harp and before he tried out at NCTC Coach Harp had said he would let him know one way or another so Andy could pursue other opportunites. His hitting was off that day so Coach Harp was on the fence. Maybe it will still work out.

Again thanks all you guys for all the advice!!!
