Hi,
Hope someone can answer my question. I was recently playing in a Colt league game when the pitcher threw an inside pitch which struck my hand while gripping the bat, but not swinging in any form (not even a check swing). I immediately stepped out of the batter's box, dropped my bat, and "shook" my hands in pain as I grimaced. The umpire ruled the play a foul ball, did not award me first base, and his reasoning was "because the ball struck a portion of my hand AND bat simultaneously". Also, there was no sound indication of the ball striking any portion of the bat. I understand that if I was swinging and hit by a pitch that the correct call is a strike, but I feel I should have been awarded first base in the above scenario. Thanks in advance!
