Okay, it's not baseball related (except for viewing purposes).

I've checked out the "reviews" on CNET and other sites, but was wondering if anyone has any personal input on HDTV like:

Are you glad you made the switch?

Should I wait until the technology gets better/less expensive?

Plasma vs LCD? (If I can talk the wife into it, I'm looking at a 37-42 inch flat panel)

Does the "Monster cable" make that much of a difference?

Any and all info is appreciated.

Thanks.

Frank,
JMO, There is nothing better than watching a game on HD. I just recently upgraded to the Directv HD package and bought a DLP tv. It has made it so that games not in HD are brutal. For example on baseball, you can actually see the spike marks, the texture of the turf, and the rotation clearly. There is no way I could go back now....

The DLP HD projection is a lot of bang for the $$$. The resolution is excellent. You can see strings hanging off a batters tackle twill on his jersey. You can tell the difference between a 3 day and 4 day beard. Smile

On Mothers day, our TV died, was buried and replaced by 2:00 p.m. that day (church slowed me down) by a 42" Samsung LCD. We absolutely love it!

If a player nicked himself shaving, you can see it when he's in the batters box. There's no better way to watch sports!

Our cable connector was the cheapie and it does just fine. Only 1 problem: ABC for some reason on DISH gets a little "goofy" sometimes; nothing else does.

Frank...

Did a TON of research before I bought mine, because the technology was somewhat new...any place I could get info CNET, Consumer reports, all the reviews on the dealer websites, technical details on the manufacturer sites...looked heavily at projection, Plasma, LCD...took a month...then I waited...then researched some more...

Then to store after store to compare the pictures of the ones I liked for myself...Best thing I did. Really cleared things up for me

Ultimately ended up with a Pansonic 37" Plasma. Big enough to fill up but not dominate the room. There is a website I saw in my travels - maybe CNET- that told just how much screen fits best into what sized room. Also bought "monster" Cables, wasn't willing to spend all that money and take any chance on cheap cables.

We can see a clear picture from all angles, motion does not blur, and the darker portions of the screen show gradiation, which is one of the tests for Plasma..

Would agree with all above...NO WAY you can ever go back...only problem is that it is really difficult to see your heros actually have blemishes, or didn't shave, or have lipstick on their collar...

2 years later the picture and the technology still thrill, and the thin profile is so convenient and just so cool...

Cool 44
I also did a TON of research & got a 50" Sony LCD Projection for $1200.

I heard the Monster Cables & "signal-filtering" surge protectors don't make that much difference. There is such a HUGE price difference that I went with a $40 HDMI cable & found a signal-filtering surge protector for around $40.

I'm extremely impressed with the sound & picture quality of HD. It's sometimes hard to watch a game broadcast in just digital.
The only thing that has been bad with the HD TV is that now we not only watch baseball but every sporting event we can find on HD - the picture is amazing. We've both probably gained a few pounds as we now watch basketball, football, s****r, etc. We also bought the DLP HD projection. We cannot stand to watch the games that are now on that are not broadcast in high def. We now even watch the nature programs.....
Well, I did it.

Got my HDTV and HD DVR. No local channels through Direct but hooked up my 20 year old antenna I have in the attic and now get all the local channels in HD . It is going to be hard to go back to SD for football games. Vegas last night wasn't bad either Big Grin. Looking forward to seeing some baseball in HD.

I did some researching and found that Monster HDMI cables are a rip-off. You can get the same thing for less than $20 from Monoprice.com.
