Hi, I am looking from other Head HS coaches any info you might have on how you run your programs.

I am looking mainly for:

1. Info you give to parents, maybe during parent meeting nights.

2. Fundraisers
3. How you run try outs
4. What your off season workouts look like.
5. During the season how do you condition the players?

Any info you might have would be much aprreciated.

Thanks!!!

You are the coach.
You pick the team
You make the lineup
You run the game.
they watch.

Just me being me sorry old. It is a new atmosphere today and I guess it is good to get the parents on board. Perhaps in todays climate that would be a little strong so maybe just dress it up a bit but try to make the point. Good Luck
1. Info you give to parents, maybe during parent meeting nights.

I give out schedules, tourn. brackets, practice times, what my expectations of them will be, what they can expect from me, and what we both should expect from the players.

2. Fundraisers

Depending on how involved you want to get...we have generated the most $$ for the time with these... golf tourn., signs on outfield wall, long ball contest,
3. How you run try outs

Every player goes through. If we have 50 kids come out we rank them 1-50 in 5 different categories. Ex. 60 time-the player with the fastest time is ranked #1 and the player with the slowest time is #50. We then add the 5 scores together and the lowest # is the highest ranked player. You can usually tell the kids that can play, but this gives you something on paper.

4. What your off season workouts look like.

Mon....weight room
Tues...defense
Wed....offense
Thurs..weight room
Friday...team defense
Sat.....games
5. During the season how do you condition the players?

We lift 2 days a week and get our cardio during practice.
I use the parent , player meeting to get all the required forms signed. I tell the parents what we expect from their child. I tell them what we expect from the parents. I tell the parents what they can expect from the coaching staff.

All of this is in the player , parent contract that each parent and player must sign at the meeting. At the end of the meeting I always make sure I make it very clear that we are going to coach the players. The players are going to play the game. And the parents are expected to support the team.

What this meeting accomplishes: The parents know exactly where we stand. The parents know exactly what they can expect from the coaching staff. It doesnt mean you wont have to deal with any issues going forward. But it sure helps you when or if you do.
