Aleebaba,

I understand you are interested in top D1 academic schools in the South and Ivys. I'm not so sure that HeadFirst is going to be the best use of your time and money based upon your target schools. Over the past few years, HF has seen the mix of colleges change to be more D3 focused with a majority of Ivys (Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Yale) in attendence. My son was recruited by a couple Ivys a couple years ago at HF. I know a few Ivys (Brown, Cornell, Penn) that have not attended HF over the last couple years. There were also some academic D1s (Duke, Virginia, Richmond) William & Mary come to mind) in attendence a couple years ago. Two of those schools are no longer listed and I think the other two are not sending decision makers. You may want to ask the head coaches (for the schools you are interested in) what camps they will be attending this summer before dropping $1K + travel + food. JMO.

Other posters may have better ideas on what showcases to attend to get maximum exposure based on your target schools. The only one I can think of (at this time) is the Stanford camp.

Best of luck.

I concur with Fenway--Northeast has heavy emphasis on D3 and Ivys. One plus is that Headfirst makes a point of guaranteeing that whatever schools they say are attending, will in fact attend--so check out the listing of schools and see if they meet your set of criteria.

As noted elsewhere, Headfirst definitely is not cheap. But my son had a great experience in a Long Island, NY event the summer between sophomore and junior years and the exposure really jump-started the whole process for him. In fact he was seen at that time by the Ivy school he will be attending next year.

Demarini also has assorted academic showcases, but I have no independent knowledge of whether they are any good. Here's a link:

Good luck and enjoy the process!

My son went to HF in Jupiter the fall of his junior year and had a great experience. However, I don't recall many southern schools in attendance. The colleges (and coaches) they advertise will be there, will be there.

There's a PG Academic Showcase in June in Florida, don't know which colleges go to that one.

As someone suggested, the best way to know is to ask the college coaches.
