Headfirst Honor Roll Camp

Feel free to send me a private message if you have specific questions. If your son is interested in the colleges listed as coming, definitely I think you'll find it worthwhile. It is a smaller camp, extremely well-run, informative, and gives good exposure to the coaches. It includes lots of break-time talks about college recruiting and the individual college baseball programs attending. The head of the program, Brendan Sullivan, is a former Stanford pitcher and is truly an outstanding individual.

My son attended in 2002 and 2003.

I echo all of Bordeaux's thoughts. My son attended last August and it was his favorite camp/showcase that he attended in 2006.

Lots of exposure and interaction with all of the coaches there. A real great experience.

Agreed with all comments. Some additional points:
1) Brendan does a great job of keeping the list of colleges attending accurate and up to date. Make sure that at least a few of the schools are ones that your son is interested in.
2) I have nothing but kudos for the showcase (my son also attended In Aug. 2006). More important, Brendan (Sully as his players call him) is such a great baseball guy, my son will be playing his second summer season for Sully!!!!

I just went to their website. Looks really good. We are going to consider going. We will see many of those schools in the NJ Academic Showcase sponsored by the NJ Twins. It's the weekend before, but it could be good to do this the following week.

Going to the Headfirst Honor Roll Camp this summer was the best decision I ever made with baseball.

Not only did it get me attention from colleges but I also had a great time.

I know most of the Headfirst staff and they are first class guys. They really care about you as a player and individual.

I highly recommend going to this showcase. It was excellent.

My first post after months of lurking. I just signed up my '08 LHP son. I have found this site to be extremely informative. This camp seems to be a certain fit for us. Three schools he has visited and was impressed with are scheduled to attend. I also feel that the kudos extended here, are more believable than on many sites. I also have been impressed without how supportive the posters are here. Thanks for the heads up.

Beyond how good an experience it is for the kids, the parents were really nice too. I still see and stay in touch with two parents whom I met at the two camps my son and his friend attended. It is a really positive environment and the staff works so hard to help the players both in their approach to the game and their exposure to college coaches. Best of luck to all the players who go, and I hope that you have the same great experience that we did!

My son attended a year ago as well. It was a super experience for both player and parent. No better way to connect with coaches from the schools in attendance. 10 out of 10.

My son is going this month to their Sacramento showcase. I think it may be ther first time they have done it out west.

Please let us know how it goes. A friend's son went to the East Coast camp and ended up signing at Tufts despite not getting any playing time to speak of as a Senior (whole 'nother Oprah there.) It would be interesting to see what kinds of schools are represented in Sacramento. We'll probably consider sending CASon next year.

CADad, they have a current list of colleges which will be represented in Sacto on their website. Some crossover with the Stanford Camp, and some new. Good dual exposure to these folks. Hope to have some fun, eat some seeds, tan these legs, and relax. Krak Jr just wants to get back there and start playing - we leave in 2 days!

For parents whose sons have attended both the Stanford camp and Headfirst camp-

I have a question about attending the Headfirst Honor Roll camp in Sacramento 7/1-2. If son attends the Stanford camp 6/27-30 would he be too tired to attend the Headfirst camp? And if many of the same coaches are present @ both camps is it still beneficial to attend Headfirst??

Hi..thought I'd pop in with my two cents. I don't think it will be too exhausting for most players. The playing time was pretty evenly divided in the games at Stanford and the skills eval/SPARQs stuff was finished in the first few days. Players need to pace themselves, nonetheless..and rest when they can. The dorms were pretty noisy at times, according to my son. He ended up napping a bit in the shade in between games. The weather was super hot last summer..which put my cold-weather boy at a disadvantage. By the way, there were guys coming in from East Cobb during the Stanford Camp..so there were plenty of guys doing back to backs..
