Sounds like your son had a great hit!
Travel and the competition it offers isn't that important until the kids hit the big field at thirteen. My son played some USSSA at eleven and twelve but it was scheduled around LL. Since his LL all-stars played into August both years it wasn't a lot of travel. He played community travel/advanced rec at nine and ten in the summer after his Ripken league.

My son hit the ball very well last year for a runt. He's 5'10" this year. Now if he can get bulkier than 135. We stretch him on the rack and water him at night. We'll do it until he hits 6'2".

I try to act calm...at least appear that way outwardly. Friends tell me I get a very tight jaw when my son is on the mound. I don't yell or even cheer more than the other fans...I am pretty quiet. And when I take a deep breath, I realize what a joy it is to be able to watch my son doing something he loves...It's a short-lived joy, so I really try to enjoy the moment. He knows I'm there and hoping for the best. And no matter how he pitches, I still love him and will support him. That's all I can do...this is his experience. There is nothing else I can do for him...as I said, just love him and relish the moment.
