Congratulations to Heartland C.C. for beginning the process to take the step into intercollegiate athletics. Heartland is located in Normal, Illinois. They will begin their program in the fall of 2007, but began the process last night when the board approved the hiring of Nate Metzger as the athletic director and head baseball coach.

The plan is to start with 4 sports....BASEBALL, softball and men's and women's s****r. Nate will begin in his new position next month. Nate was team captain in his playing days at Greenville College. Since then he has coached at the junior high, high school and college level teams. Most recently, Nate put together and coached the college summer team, the Twin City Scrappers for 4 years. In their third year, 2004, the Scrappers won the NABF College Division World Series in Toledo, Ohio with an overall season record of 47-11.

In 2005, he moved the Scrappers to East Peoria and they competed in the Central Illinois Collegiate League, finishing in second place during the regular season.

Nate has also coached the Twin City Stars of the CICL, was an assistant coach at Normal West High School and was part owner and lead instructor at THE PRACTICE FACTORY Baseball training facility in the Twin Cities. He has also been an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves.

For further proof of what baseball means to Nate, his two year old daughter's name is Shelby Maddux Metzger, and his infant daughter is Morgan Aaron Metzger.

Go Heartland Hawks!
