You know whats funny ? American Legion now requires base coaches to wear helmets, MLB base coaches may have to wear them soon as well. They are around 90' from the plate. Pitchers are 60.5'away.
You mention anything about going back to using wood bats in high school and people get all worked up, Pitchers are a sitting duck on those comebackers, the game was designed to be played with wood not metal.
If base coaches have to wear helmets, than metal bats should be banned from baseball. A minor league coach was killed last year by a ball hit by a wood bat, It does not take a rocket scientist to know the ball comes off a metal bat faster than wood. Wood or metal, I know pitchers are in a precarious position, but wood bats are safer than metal.
For all the nay sayers that say "wood will cost too much"
Now I see some new metal bats selling for almost $400.00, which is ridiculous. You can buy a lot of wood bats for $400.00.
