Hey all, I'm new to the site but been reading along for awhile.  Just have a question and I've been researching and haven't found anything of value.   What are some drills that I can work on for deceleration?  If I am correct, doesn't your should have "deceleration muscles" that help to prevent injuries on the follow through?  Just wondering on what I can do to strengthen these because my arm has gotten to where it hurts on the follow through after throwing.  Thanks!!

I agree with others, if you are in pain you need to see a doctor.

However, if you are trying to strengthen specific muscles, I recommend you see a physical therapist to tailor a program for you.  My oldest son was diagnosed (college pitcher)  with gird which is essentially weakened decelerator muscles.  His trainer gave him a PT program (bands and flexibility exercises) that he followed to get back on the field.  This isn't something you want to mess around with and it can take you out of baseball for a long period of time if not diagnosed and treated....just my experience take my opinion for what it Is worth.

If this is a mechanical issue, I would consult a reputable pitching coach to work out the kinks as you don't want to be repeating the same bad movement over and over.

Good luck!

If something hurts it is a warning sign.  Something is wrong with technique, musculature or your body that is causing inflammation.  The first stop is the doctor to assure that the damage causing the inflammation and pain is understood and addressed medically (rest, medicine etc.)  Once you have corrected the immediate issue (which in essence is only a Band-Aid to address a symptom) then I would recommendation you find someone who can analyze the underlying fundamental or technical issues that may have caused the problem in the first place.  Without these two steps being completed reoccurrence probabilities are very high.

When you are on the second step you can receive good guidance regarding strengthening, flexibility, deceleration exercises etc. that will help you move forward.  Do not treat this lightly...the six words that have ended more baseball careers than any other is "All you have to do is..."you can fill in the blank...IMHO once pain occurs particularly re-occurring pain the solution is a process not a quick fix.
