I am proposing a "newspaper" purchase fund for some local high school coaches...

Couldn't believe what I saw in the past few days/games...

The best hitter (Smalls...and one of our sebsters) for Batavia launches a walk-off home run to send them to Geneva! (Did the coach know that the kid has been hitting .500 plus with a ton of home runs and rbis????) Published in the newspaper after every game!!!!

Rita vs. HSouth...Of all people ( RYAN WHITE) to pitch to with 2 outs in the game...The kid launches a 3-run WALK OFF HOME RUN!!!!

Seriously, does anyone know if Chicagoland high school coaches read newspapers, specifically the section that has high school sports?

(Both kids are likely ALL STATE players!!!) How can you let your TEAM get beat by them in this fashion????

Agree Btil. Even if they don't want to spend a dime- with about 15 minutes a day on internet they could get tons of info from free newspaper websites.
You'd think they could get info from other coaches/umps/scouts etc. I'd want to know a bit about any future opponent if possible. You can google any name and pull off tons of recent info on players/teams.
Maybe some coaches don't have or take the time and some just don't care enough. I know that many do because I have overheard a number of good coaches talking over opponents and they know their stud players and tendencies. Seems hard to believe this deep in tournament teams weren't scouted by lower level coaches at least once.
i totally agree with you that some coaches make decisions that completely stun me. I am not sure that coaches read the paper as much as they rely on scouts. As much as i am dumbfounded by coaches continuing to pitch to smalley, i really dont care because he is winning games for us. I just cant believe they continue to do it b/c he has been doin stuff like that the whole season. GO BULLDOGS!
Not if there are runners on base and it is a close game. If there is room to put him on, put him on. Also depends on who is hitting behind Smalley.

Side note...someone mentioned to the OPRF coaches before the game that Cademartori was their stud and suggested pitching around him if they could...don't quote me, but they asked "is he good?".

When is that new paper coming out?

I'm not sure if you are on the batavia team or a fan or what but i'll assume you were at the minooka vs batavia game. When Kenny got up in the 7th and they took gary out i was behind that call. After gary pitched a very good game i had confidence in the pitcher coming in relief. He is swinging a very hot bat and already had 3 hits off of him. i guess i just dont understand your question when kenny batted against him all game. help me out if ya can..

Beenthere... I think the reasoning behind the Downers Grove North's coach for not walking me was because of Mandele's day at the plate behind me. I dont think he wanted Mandele hitting with a runner in scoring position. In the inning before he had a big single to keep us in the game and has been swinging a very hot bat throughout the playoffs.
pitchdoc, OPRF had a full scouting report on each starter. They knew that cademartori was by far their best player, but OP had their best also pitching so they felt pretty confident with the matchup, obviously it didnt go well but in the sixth inning they did intentionally walk him and the next guy flew out to center. so for this quote you think you heard it is complete hearsay

Okay I understand what you are talking about now. But yeah that is a tough call. I guess it just depends on how much confidence the coach has in the pitcher. Good pitching usually beats good hitting but not all the time, i guess its a 50/50. You asked who would be in favor..i'd have to say the pitcher if it was the first time the hitter has faced him.
I agree with you on the fact that the pitcher would be in favor, Indians. That is usually the case, but when smalley is hot, there is almost no way to get him out. You just have to hope that he is not going to capitalize on your mistakes, but that is not going to happen most of the time. HE IS AN AMAZING HITTER. patman is on the team. PAT FREGA is his name, he is the sophomore that came out of nowhere to hit .750 this postseason and get the gamewinning RBI in our win over oswego.
guy...I believe Kudlik hit behind Cademartori. If I recall, he did not do anything that day. Why not put Cademartori in with runners in scoring position...could have meant the game. But, you never know what will happen, I will give you that much. As far as the quote, no, I was not there when he said it, but the guy he said it too is a guy I coached with...so I trust he was not making it up.
