Help with position - plate umpire | High School Baseball Web

I was the PU in a HS game and one batter had an awkward stance. His hands came out over the plate so much that when I was in the slot, it obstructed my view of the pitcher. I adjusted to be more behind the catcher, but found I lost the low part of the zone. Has anyone had a similar experience? Have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Getting lower in the normal slot position often helps. You may find it helpful to push your face a little farther forward when you do.

But do whatever it takes to get the best view available.

the two usual choices are lower and closer or up and back.

Sometimes I just stay where I am and call the glove.
