My fairly conservative daughter is considering going to one of these schools to play softball. I know that the academics at all of these schools are excellent.

What I really want to know is what the recruiting brochures don't tell you.....

* How safe the school is, (if there is barbed wire over the wrought iron fence covered by 1 inch chain link),
* If a fairly conservative girl from the north can fit in,
* How difficult it is to get to the school from the airport,...............

You know, stuff like that. There haven't been any students from her high school who have gone there and the counselors don't know much about them since they don't know anyone who has ever gone, either.

We've been to visit Spring Hill and Birmingham Southern. We don't know much about Hendrix, other than it's a college that "changes lives". Of course, I think that ALL colleges change lives, but that's just me....

Anyway, whatever information you can provide I would appreciate very much.

Thank you in advance.

If you are talking about Hendrix in Arkansas it is the most liberal college in Arkansas. It was the only school in Arkansas I would not let my conservative daughter attens.

Funny you say that. I was looking at Hendrix' website a month or so ago and that's the feeling I got too...but I wasn't familiar with them so I wasn't sure. I would beware of a school that is proud of how liberal they are...I think they seem to be more concerned with training kids WHAT to think rather than teaching them HOW to think.

Tx-Husker, based on my 2 children's experiences at Hendrix, you couldn't be more off point. Hendrix DID teach the my kids how to think and not just repeat back the thoughts of the professors. It's a tremendous school where many students discover their true calling in life. Is that a bad thing to ask of a school? I say NOT!
Sorry TX-Husker that I asked for you to define these terms, I just dislike how labels can be misunderstood.

Hendrix has the entire spectrum of students and philosophies. I would say the majority are middle of the road independent thinkers with a strong social conscience. Many might describe that as liberal, I tend to believe they are like the majority of America...openminded and responsible.
My son and wife visited last year. Absolutely loved the coaching staff. First rate. Great athletic facilities.

Their impressions of the school, and the report from the players was that Hendrix is indeed a progressive school. It is rated in many college sources as unfriendly to people of faith.

That will have an appeal to some and not to others.
